NAKED

(H, AB, LLL, NNN, SSS, VV) Philosophic, nihilistic anti-Christian blasphemy; over 100 obscenities & profanities; male & female nudity; 3 brutal rapes; and, misogynistic violence.

More Detail:

The film NAKED opens at night in contemporary London with the screams of an older woman being raped. She breaks free, curses and runs away. The perpetrator, and the main character, stares blankly after her wondering what her problem is. With the stage set, NAKED is a harsh, brutal study of the denizens of London’s lost generation. The film examines the sordid lives of four lost souls: Johnny, a sexually violent drifter; Louise and Sophie, two roommates wounded in the war of love; and Jeremy, a self-centered misogynist who delights in dominating women. Laden with brilliant acting and dialogue, NAKED wastes its potential by never rising above a vision of amoral, vitriolic nihilism. Instead of offering insight, the film lounges in the darkness of empty thoughts and meaningless lives. Its characters substitute promiscuous and violent sex and drugs for an authentic experience with God.

The characters of NAKED symbolize civilization unshredding and the consequences of taking morality from the social equation. In the Golden era of Hollywood, such evil characters would get their comeuppance and be appropriately punished. Today, such evil characters not only thrive on the screen but get critical praise as well. Despite brilliant acting and direction, NAKED serves as a warning and as a very graphic one at that.
