More Detail:
Set in San Francisco, director Paul Verhoeven’s BASIC INSTINCT opens with a bloody ice-pick murder committed during fornication. As police investigate, they discover a bisexual detective novelist, Catherine Trammell, was the last person with the deceased. Enter police detective Nick Curran who offers to escort millionaire Trammell back to her home where he discovers she has a complete file on him. Trammell comes on to him sexually despite the fact that she has a live-in girl friend, Roxy, who makes no effort to hide her jealousy over Catherine’s affections. The situation becomes compounded when someone in the police department is murdered, and Nick is a primary suspect.
Although it has several loose ends and gaping holes in the storyline, BASIC INSTINCT moves rapidly. However, BASIC INSTINCT will do nothing but pull its viewers down, especially teenagers, and lead them further into immorality and violence and contribute once more to the alarming increase of sex, abortion, suicide, and misery with its distorted view of sexual relationships apart from marriage. Truly, Sodom and Gomorrah have nothing on our generation.
