Book Review – LAST WORDS OF JESUS: FIRST STEPS TO A RICHER LIFE

Book Review LAST WORDS OF JESUS: FIRST STEPS TO A RICHER LIFE

By Dr. Ted Baehr, Publisher

Stu Epperson Jr.’s book LAST WORDS OF JESUS: FIRST STEPS TO A RICHER LIFE, is not only one of the most readable devotions, but also one of the most convicting, impacting and transformational.

Each section helps us to understand Jesus’s seven last words, phrases or sentences on the cross. The very first chapter “Father Forgive Them for They Know Not What They Do,” is so good, that it is worth reading to your friends and family. Not only is there encouraging exegetical explanation, but also scriptural cross references and discussion questions that are worth taking time to consider and answer.

Every chapter offers the same transformational thrust. Stu has even dealt with the most difficult last words of Jesus on the cross, “My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me.” He makes the connection that this is the fulfillment of Psalm 22. More than that, it helps us to see the power in the crucifixion.

Of course it’s necessary to know that as Jesus said, “I and the Father are one,” and being one, as resolved at the Council at Nicaea, they could not be separated in their very substance. This a “both and” area of scripture, where Jesus is both fully God and fully man. Stu does a beautiful, delicate, careful treatment of the humanity and the spiritual power of these last words.

MOVIEGUIDE® commends the book. I’m going to use it as a devotional and so should you.
