Family of Fred Thompson stated yesterday that their beloved brother, husband, father and grandfather had passed away on Sunday in Nashville, Tennessee of lymphoma. His battle with cancer started in 2004, and he fought strong with it until last Sunday. He was age 73.

Mr. Thompson was a former U.S. Republican senator for eight years, GOP presidential candidate, Watergate attorney and actor in several featured films and television shows, including LAW & ORDER, THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER and DIE HARD 2.

He was known to go back and forth between the spotlights of politics and acting, but his wife stated that he “was the same man on the floor of the Senate, the movie studio, or the town square of Lawrenceburg, his home.” The statement continued, “Fred believed that the greatness of our nation was defined by the hard work, faith and honesty of its people.  He had an enduring belief in the Exceptionalism of our country, and that America could provide the opportunity for any boy or girl, in any corner of our country, to succeed in life. “

Along with the 20+ motion picture movies and a couple television shows, he was cast for roles in several faith-based movies, including 23 BLAST, PERSECUTED, UNLIMITED, and most recently, 90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN.

The MOVIEGUIDE® reporters and publisher met and interviewed Fred several times. He was always gracious and helpful.

His death is a great loss to every one of us, as well as his family and his friends. Please be praying for them.
