Underwhelming and Offensive – the Golden Globes in a Nutshell
By Dr. Ted Baehr, Publisher, and Dr. Tom Snyder
Once again, there was little that was family friendly at the Golden Globes ceremony last night.
The Hollywood Foreign Press running the Globes again hired a crude comic to host the Globes. And, once again viewers were subjected to some crude jokes and foul language.
Meanwhile, the awards themselves were underwhelming, with “The Revenant” and “The Martian” taking some of the top awards. At least “The Martian” is one of Movieguide®’s nominees for Best 2015 Movie for Mature Audiences.
Also, Jennifer Lawrence took home the Best Actress in a Comedy Award for her role in Movieguide® Award nominee, “Joy,” a pro-capitalist movie.
Finally, many of the TV awards were presented to more obscure programs, such as Amazon’s “Mozart in the Jungle.”
The lesson to all this?
If you want to see a truly family-friendly, entertaining, inspiring awards show this year, tune in to the 24th Annual Movieguide® Faith & Values Awards Gala and Report to the Entertainment Industry, which will be telecast Feb. 22 and Feb. 24 on the REELZChannel, at 4 pm Pacific and 7 pm Eastern, and 9 pm Pacific and 12 midnite Eastern, respectively.
This year’s theme is “Home and Heart.”
UPDATE: Ratings for the 2016 Golden Globes broadcast went down 4% from last year.
