Zack Synder’s Director’s Cut of JUSTICE LEAGUE to Debut on HBO Max

Zack Synder’s cut of JUSTICE LEAGUE will debut on HBO Max.

“With the new platform and streaming services, you can have something like this,” said producer Deborah Synder. Deborah is married to Zack. “You can’t release something like this theatrically, but you could with a streaming service. It’s an opportunity that wasn’t there two years ago, to be honest.”

Though Zack Snyder is cited as the director on JUSTICE LEAGUE in 2017, he was unable to complete the project when his daughter, Autumn, committed suicide.

Joss Whedon (AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON) stepped in to finish JUSTICE LEAGUE, but after the movie’s release in 2017, fans and cast members demanded to see Zack’s version using the hashtag #ReleaseTheSynderCut.

Now, with the advent of streaming, HBO Max will broadcast Zack’s four-hour extended director’s cut.

“It is currently unclear what form Snyder’s Justice League will take. Whether it will be released as an almost four-hour director’s cut or split into six “chapters” has yet to be decided,” said The Hollywood Reporter. “But the Snyders are now in the midst of reassembling much of their original postproduction crew to score, cut, add new and finish old visual effects, and, yes, maybe bring back many of the actors to record additional dialogue.

Snyder announced the project on a Zoom call.

The project is slated to debut in 2021.

Movieguide® found the 2017 JUSTICE LEAGUE very redemptive.

According to the Movieguide® review:

JUSTICE LEAGUE is better structured than recent superhero movies from DC Comics and Warner Bros. Pictures. It also has a lighter touch, which makes it more fun, more heroic and less dark and edgy. Finally, Batman and Superman are better developed, and Wonder Woman is a brilliant addition. Despite some foul language and brief negative content with some PC qualities, JUSTICE LEAGUE has an uplifting worldview with strong Christian, redemptive, moral themes, messages and motifs. Hope, truth, justice, and teamwork are extolled. The light they bring overcomes the villain’s demonic darkness. MOVIEGUIDE® commends JUSTICE LEAGUE but advises caution for older children.

Viewers and fans alike can only hope that the extended cut mirrors the original movie’s worthwhile themes.
