Tyson Fury: God ‘Raised Me to My Feet’ in Heavyweight Boxing Match

By Movieguide® Staff

Heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury praised God for his recent title victory against Deontay Wilder.

“I would like to say thank you to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In the mighty name of Jesus on this fight tonight again,” Fury said in a post-game interview.

The match went 11 rounds, and there was a point in which Fury thought he was down for the count.

“I was hurt. Wilder’s a strong puncher and he’s a tough man,” he added. “I was hitting him with some big shots. My Lord and Savior raised me to my feet tonight to give Him the glory.”

Fury also said he would pray for his opponent after the fight.

“Deontay Wilder’s a top fighter. He gave me a real run for my money. I always said I’m the best in the world and he’s second best,” Fury said. “He’s got no love for me because you know why. Because I’ve beat him three times. And he is like, ‘I’m a sportsman.’ I went over to him to show some love and respect, and he didn’t want to give it back. So that’s his problem. I’ll pray for him so God will soften his heart.”

After the match, Fury wore a hat that said, “Jesus: El Rey Viene,” a Spanish phrase that means “Jesus, the King is coming.”

Fury is not the only fighter to profess faith in Jesus Christ.

UFC Champion Rose Namajunas previously gave glory to God for becoming the strawweight champion.

As Movieguide® reported:

“I did it again, but God did it,” Namajunas told Joe Rogan in the post-match interview. “I really just had to have faith in Him, but that’s what got me through.” …

Namajunas also invites her fans into her faith. In Dec. 2020, Namajunas made a live stream on YouTube, giving people the opportunity to pray.

“The power of prayer guys. No matter what’s going on right now. . . there’s lots of craziness, God is in the center of all that and that’s where peace is found. If you can find that center, that peace in the midst of all this – that’s the whole goal,” Namajunas said.
