Tucker Carlson Calls Christmas Tree Burning ‘An Attack on Christianity’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Fox News host Tucker Carlson is calling the recent burning of a Christmas tree “an attack on Christianity.”

The tree was outside the Fox News’ New York offices.

Carlson made his statements the day Craig Tamanaha, the alleged arsonist, was arrested and charged.

He was later released from custody without bail, telling reporters, “I didn’t do it.”

“A Christmas tree is a symbol. It’s a symbol of a specific culture. It’s a symbol of a much-loved tradition that’s hundreds of years old,” Carlson told his viewers. “Above all, it’s a symbol of a religion, the world’s largest. Torching Christmas trees is an attack on Christianity, obviously. It’s an assault on religious observance.”

He also said that an attack of this nature on another religion would be considered a “hate crime.”

“The DOJ can tell you precisely how many Qurans were burned last year in the United States, but they don’t keep track of Christmas trees,” he continued. “Why is that? Well, because they couldn’t care less.”

The Christmas tree has already been replaced, with the tree lighting broadcast live on the network.

In a company-wide message about the incident, Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott said, “We will not let this deliberate and brazen act of cowardice deter us. We are in the process of rebuilding and installing a new tree as a message that there can be peace, light and joy even during a dark moment like this.”

To thank the NYPD and FDNY, the two agencies who responded immediately to the fire, both FOX News Media and Fox Corporation have made a $100,000 donation to Answer the Call, which provides financial assistance to the families of fallen service members.
