In Netflix’s original series SWEET TOOTH, a horrible plague has swept the world. This plague kills off many of the world’s population, but humans born after the epidemic are born with animal-like features and are immune to the virus. The story follows Gus, a human-animal hybrid, and his journey from the home his father built to keep the world away. His mission is to find out what happened to his mother. Along the way, he encounters friends and foes as they help or hinder his quest. Gus’ understanding of the world and how to function in this new society undergoes changes as the first season progresses.

SWEET TOOTH does an amazing job portraying humanity in the worst of times. Gus’s positive outlook on life contrasts with everyone else’s worldview, and it is something to admire. The series encourages viewers to ask what they would do in certain situations. OVERVIEW REVIEW: Netflix’s original series SWEET TOOTH is about on a young half-human, half-deer boy with an incredible gift. His father does his best to care for him over the course of a decade so that he doesn’t know of the apocalyptic world around him. However, when they’re discovered, Gus (aka Sweet Tooth) must leave his home to find his mother, who may have the answer as to why he was born this way. Along the way, he will meet new people who show him the rules in this new and unfamiliar world as well as the dangers it poses.

In SWEET TOOTH, the world has gone through an apocalyptic change and the show’s scenery and locals reflect this. From suburban neighborhoods, untouched forests and plains, and sterile hospitals, SWEET TOOTH has a wealth of sets that utilize their post-apocalyptic setting. The series weaves different episodic storylines together within an overarching plot. With everyone being a part of each other’s life in some way, the series weaves a single plotline to show what an apocalypse can be like. A doctor becomes a part of Gus’ life, as does a former mercenary named Tommy Jepperd who tries to protect Gus. A preserve caretaker is part of the doctor’s life. It’s satisfying seeing these storylines intermingle with each other and the payoff is well worth it.

Each episode of SWEET TOOTH is roughly 45-50 minutes long. Each one focuses on a different character and what their lives have become since the epidemic started. The series delves into questions of morality, such as whether a friend and neighbor who became sick is still welcome or must be eliminated to keep the rest safe. Also, Tommy Jepperd has his own form of morality, like stealing medicine the private militia has taken and in how he decides to protect Gus.
