PEACE RIVER follows the life of cowboy Casey Shane as he discovers what it is to be a cowboy from his loving grandfather, Bo. Casey grows up alongside Maria, and they both become skilled rodeo cowboys. Casey becomes a champion rodeo cowboy in high school but wants to continue his family’s legacy of serving in the military. Maria says she will wait for him to return and attends college. However, when Casey returns from the War on Terror after 9/11, he could sever his longtime relationships with family, the love of his life and God. Casey must decide whether or not to trust God and the wise words of his grandfather or continue down his own broken path.
PEACE RIVER contains some gorgeous scenery that celebrates modern-day cowboys but contains some noticeable technical mistakes. It does champion God, country, faith, serving others, prayer, and gratitude. Forgiveness and the power of God to overcome grief play major roles in Casey’s life. PEACE RIVER celebrates God, country and the cowboy way in a drama about the life of a rodeo champion turned military veteran.
After his father’s death, Casey Shane and his mother move into his grandparent’s house. Casey’s grandfather, Bo, teaches Casey how to live like a modern-day cowboy, working to root Casey in faith and family.
The Shanes are good friends with fellow cowboys, the Martinez family, and Casey and Maria grow up together. As their skill on horses and other rodeo animals increases, they both make headlines in the local papers. Not only are Maria and Casey some of the most skilled rodeo cowboys, but they are also in love with each other.
Bo and Casey’s father both served in the military, and Casey decides he wants to continue that legacy after graduating high school. Casey discusses it with Maria, and she says she will wait for him to come back home.
However, after Casey wins the Rodeo Championship, he celebrates by drinking and is seduced by another woman. Maria is heartbroken and doesn’t say goodbye to Casey when he leaves for the military. Casey realizes his mistake, and his love for Maria does not wane while in the service.
Casey becomes a staff sergeant and leads a group of friends into battle after the 9/11 attacks on the world trade center. However, Casey and his group of men are pinned down in a firefight, and a snap judgment costs everything.
Casey returns home but suffers from PTSD, relying on heavy drinking and meds instead of what Bo told him to rely on: God and family. In his depression, Casey he tries to rekindle things with Maria but fails to prove that he wouldn’t drag her down with him.
As Casey struggles to find his footing, he must decide whether or not to trust God and the wise words of his grandfather or continue down his own path.
