For KING & COUNTRY Raise Money For Ukrainian Refugees: ‘When People Are In Need, You Help’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Christian band for KING & COUNTRY has partnered with humanitarian organization Convoy of Hope to raise over $150,000 for victims of the Ukrainian invasion.

Brothers Luke and Joel Smallbone hosted a free online concert earlier this month from the Mojave Desert in California. More than 300,000 people attended the virtual show as the group played songs from their latest album, What Are We Waiting For?

In an interview with Fox & Friends, the Smallbones said that the idea for the concert came from some advice that their father had given them when they were young.

“He said, ‘When people are in need, you help.’ You know, everybody can play a part, everybody can do something. For us, this is our way to hopefully help people that are being displaced, that are going through incredibly difficult things as we speak,” Luke shared.

The brothers were not expecting such a massive amount of money to be raised.

“We sort of said we are not going to put a price tag on this thing. We thought maybe 50 grand. So, for our supporters to show up with 150 grand and counting is just incredible,” Joel said.

Convoy of Hope was overjoyed to receive the funds for KING & COUNTRY raised.

Hal Donaldson, the head of the organization, said, “The money they are helping raise will bring much-needed relief to people inside Ukraine and refugees in surrounding countries.”

“Convoy of Hope is incredibly blessed by this partnership with for KING & COUNTRY,” he continued. “I truly appreciate Joel and Luke’s hearts for the work that Convoy of Hope does and their desire to relieve the suffering of Ukrainians. The money they have helped, and continue to help raise, will bring much-needed relief to people inside Ukraine and refugees in the countries surrounding it.”

The Smallbone brothers aren’t the only celebrities lending a helping hand as Russia continues its invasion of Ukraine.

Movieguide® previously reported on Joni Eareckson Tada’s efforts to help disabled people in Ukraine:

The war in Ukraine has left countless people stranded and desperate for help with evacuation, and people with disabilities are among the most vulnerable.

Faith-based ministry Joni and Friends is stepping in to bridge the gap for many of the 2.7 million persons living with disabilities in Ukraine who might have otherwise been left behind. Founded by Christian author, speaker, and radio host Joni Eareckson-Tada, Joni and Friends has helped 250 people reach Poland since the start of the war and plans to escort more to safe locations around the globe as conditions allow.

According to CBN News, Joni and Friends is planning to rescue an additional 50 people with disabilities and their caregivers in Eastern Ukraine on Friday, March 25, organized by Galyna, their In-Country Coordinator in Ukraine.
