ANT-MAN star Paul Rudd brightened young fan Brody Ridder’s day with a FaceTime call, handwritten note and signed Ant-Man helmet after the middle schooler’s classmates refused to sign his yearbook.
In his note to 12-year-old Brody, Rudd said, “It’s important to remember that even when life is tough that things get better. There are so many people that love you and think you’re the coolest kid there is—me being one of them! I can’t wait to see all the amazing things you’re going to accomplish.”
Brody’s story broke after his mom posted a photo of his mostly blank yearbook page on Facebook, revealing that his classmates refused to sign his yearbook even though her son asked “all kinds of kids.”
A note Brody wrote to himself on one of the nearly empty pages broke her heart: “Hope you make some more friends —Brody Ridder.”
When Rudd heard about Brody’s story, he reached out to the boy and his family to set up a FaceTime call, and according to a Facebook post from Brody’s mom, the two are now on texting terms.
Following their call, Rudd sent a handwritten note and a signed Ant-Man helmet to the middle schooler. On the helmet, Rudd wrote, “To my good friend Brody for when he takes on the world!”
After his mom’s post went viral, Brody experienced not only experienced an outpouring of love from Rudd but also from his community. Three upperclassmen at Brody’s school pulled together a group of students to go to Brody’s class and sign his yearbook.
“Always just be that gateway for people to feel welcome,” Joanna Cooper, one of the older students, said.
“The outpouring of support means the world to Brody and our family,” Brody’s mom Cassandra Ridder told The Denver Post via a Facebook message. “Just reading all the positivity has been extremely heartwarming. There are so many people out there that relate to what Brody has gone through, and I’m so sorry to hear that, and we are there for you guys too!”
