Country star Tanya Tucker recently shared her excitement for her acting debut in Paramount Network’s upcoming Christmas movie, A NASHVILLE COUNTRY CHRISTMAS.

Tucker, who stars alongside Kimberly Williams-Paisley and Keith Carradine, said that she initially did not think about doing a movie.

“They were just after me about doing something and I’d been going and going, the last three years have just been a cyclone, so when they offered me this I was a little sensitive at first,” Tucker told Fox News in a recent interview. “But then they talked me into it. I thought, if I am going to do an acting role, I should really bite into something, something that I can really express my acting ability, it’s down there somewhere.”

“This movie was so much fun,” she said. “To work with Ashley Williams directing, and the whole cast… everybody was just cast so well, I don’t know what they were doing with me.”

“I kind of play myself, a bit. I am just tired of Hollywood and how they try to make country music something it’s not really,” she said of her character in the movie. “I was tired of it and I was doing a Christmas special, and I just take off and went back to Tennessee where my mother raised me. These three orphans were there, they had been camping out because they ran away from the orphanage, they were gonna split them up. So they were there living. THrough all of the time and things, a lot of love started happening, I fell in love with them.”

While Tucker, 64, is new to acting, she said that it was her father that inspired her to pursue a career in show business.

“At that time the Arizona state fair was happening, and they always had the posters of who was going to be performing that year and I looked at him, and I said ‘Daddy, I want to be a star,’” she recalled. “He said ‘ok, you said the truth so let’s go.’”

“He packed up everything, quit a good job, he put it all away to [support me],” she added. “He had time to work with me when he was home, but he worked late hours mining for copper, and selling junk, he could weld, my dad could sing, there weren’t many things that my dad couldn’t do. He was probably the only one who could manage me, because I was sort of unmanageable.”

Tucker expressed thankfulness for the sacrifices that both her parents made to get her to where she is today.

“But it was a wonderful thing to have my dad, I wouldn’t have known about a lot of things if I hadn’t had him. He sat around constantly thinking of ways to make me better and to have my children set up,” she said. “I think of him everyday and a lot of my songs refer to him and my mother too. They were both very special people to me.”
