By Movieguide® Contributor
As the new year gets underway, the Bible seems to be the focus for many as podcasts discussing faith and Christianity appear among the top podcasts for platforms like Apple and Spotify.
A Monday tweet from Ascension Press shared that the podcasts “The Catechism in a Year” (CIY) and “The Bible in a Year” (BIY), both with Fr. Mike Schmitz, held the top two podcast spots on Apple.
“Top 2 on Apple!!! BIY is up to #2!,” the group celebrated. “God is speaking, and people are listening. People are hungry for God!”

According to chartable.com, as of this writing, the #3 spot for Apple podcasts goes to “The Bible Recap,” followed by “Dateline NBC” and “Crime Junkie” rounding off the top 5.
A similar trend appeared on Spotify’s podcast chart, with “CIY” holding the #2 spot.
“The Joe Rogan Experience” held first place, while “The Bible Recap” and “BIY” took the #3 and #4 spots.
“CIY” is described as the sequel to “BIY,” which hit #1 on Apple in both its January 2021 launch and in 2022.
PR Newswire shares, “BIY was Chartable’s #1 global podcast in Religion & Spirituality in 2022, and has been downloaded 430 million times.”
For Ascension’s president and CEO Jonathan Strate, the popularity of these podcasts “speaks to the deep longing we all have to respond to God’s plan for each one of us.”
