Tim Tebow on How His Father Impacted His Faith: ‘He is So Bold’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Former NFL star Tim Tebow recently headlined at a Florida prayer breakfast, speaking on the impact his father, Robert Tebow, has had on his life and work.
“One of the reasons my dad is one of my biggest heroes is because I got to watch him under so many extreme situations stand up and share the love of Jesus Christ,” said Tebow.
He described one example of his father’s bold faith that continues to inspire him.
“Just down the road in Jacksonville, Florida, we’d go to a restaurant and he would stand up and we would pray before we’d eat,” he explained. “He was so bold; he is so bold and I am not. To be bold means to put it all on the line to do whatever is necessary, and my dad has been willing to do that for the sake of the gospel for so many years.”
Tebow’s parents worked as missionaries in the Philippines when he was born, and now Tebow’s foundation continues to provide life-changing surgeries and aid to children there.
He shared one example during the breakfast, explaining how a young girl in Southeast Asia who struggled with multiple handicaps was rescued by missionaries and later adopted.
Tebow saw the large attendance at the prayer breakfast as an “encouragement,” a word he defines as “to give support, confidence or hope. Those are amazing things.”
One attendee reflected on the impact Tebow’s keynote speech had on her.
“I love it when Christians come together and support the Prayer Breakfast in our town,” said Crystal Cade. “Prayer is most important thing and I wanted to hear Tim Tebow’s story right from him. To have someone stand up in a football game and share his beliefs with the world is just so inspiring to me.”
Movieguide® has previously reported on Tebow’s work, most recently through the Tim Tebow Foundation’s Night to Shine:
Last Friday, Tim Tebow’s Night to Shine celebrated its first in-person event in two years as thousands of people across the world attended prom events for people living with disabilities.
The event occurred in 620 local churches across roughly 30 countries, providing guests with a red-carpet entrance, dinner, desserts, music, karaoke, dancing and photos before topping the evening off with a crowning ceremony.
The celebration offered an unforgettable prom experience for people with special needs, ages 14 years and older.
“Worthy. Valued. Cherished. Loved…Royalty! Just a few words to describe the amazing honored guests of Night to Shine!” Tebow said.
