Alex Kendrick on Lee University Revival: ‘Seeing Hearts Transformed’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Moviemaker Alex Kendrick recently shared his experience visiting a chapel service at Lee University in Tennessee—an offshoot of the Asbury University revival.
“There’s no show here. There is no spectacle other than seeing hearts transformed,” Kendrick said in a video filmed in front of Lee’s chapel.
The revival at Lee University, a private Christian college in Cleaveland, Tennessee, began on February 14.
“Revival is still going on,” he said. “That chapel behind me is still filled. It’s been almost two weeks now, and I think that is amazing. My family and I have come up here for a couple of days and just joined in on what God’s doing. It is incredible!”
He continued, “And so I’m very, very grateful. So what’s going on at Asbury, Lee University, Samford University, Cedarville in Ohio, there’s a number of colleges that are now seeking the Lord.”
“And praise God for this generation that is seeking after God,” Kendrick added. “Oh, it’s just good! Man, it fills my heart! So, praise the Lord, and let’s pray that the Lord keeps moving as he wills.”
Lee University Campus Pastor Rob Fultz wrote about the Asbury revival on Twitter on February 10.
“What’s happening at Asbury is not and will not remain confined. It will, and already is awakening the deep wells of revival on campuses across the nation. They have been churning, pressing against the seals that have kept them hidden, and they are about to burst with new life,” Fultz said.
Greg Gordon, the founder of SermonIndex.net, tweeted a video from Lee on February 16, saying, “Lee University has been meeting now for 4 days straight. Just absolutely overwhelming Holy Spirit Power in the Stone Chapel at Lee University at this moment.”
Kendrick and his brother Stephen have worked on several Movieguide® award-winning movies, including COURAGEOUS and OVERCOMER.
Movieguide® previously reported on the Kendrick brothers’ mission behind their work:
Despite his success in the entertainment industry, Alex Kendrick said that Christ is at the center of everything he sets out to do.
The director of Movieguide® Award winning movies like COURAGEOUS said that he and his brother, Stephen, see their work as ministry.
“The more I got into telling stories in the form of feature films and books, Scripture was jumping out at me, and the Lord was pointing to the passages that talk about when you see a Pharisee or someone praying on the street corners to be seen by men, Jesus said that’s the only reward they’ll ever get,” Kendrick said on a recent episode of the ‘The Women in My World’ podcast. “They’re not getting something from the Lord when they are [trying] to be seen by men.”
“I started thinking, ‘Lord, I don’t wanna do these movies or books or speaking just to be seen by men,’” he added. “I had to arrange, even in my own heart, what type of success was motivating me.”
The Kendrick brothers recently released their first movie based on a true story called, LIFEMARK. Like their other projects, Alex said that they prayed for God’s will to be done every step of the way.
“I want the Lord’s presence on the projects we work on,” Alex said on the podcast. “I want Him to be glorified, Him to do more through these projects and ministry avenues than I ever could, and I want to hear, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant,’ when I’m standing before Him.”
“We’ve tasted a little bit of the awards and the status that we thought would be fulfilling, and it feels good for about 15 minutes,” he continued. “Then it starts to fade and I realize, ‘Lord, I just want you.’”
