Warren Peay, an appliance repair technician from South Carolina, floored AMERICAN IDOL judges with his rendition of Christian singer-songwriter Zach Williams’ song, “To the Table.”

“I thought you were Chris Stapleton’s brother,” Katy Perry, a current judge on the show, said upon seeing Peay.

Peay, 23, sang the song about burdens, sins and sadness in front of judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

“There’s a Savior, and He calls,” Peay sang. “Bring it all to the table.”

After Peay’s performance, all three judges expressed amazement at his talent.

“A Christian Chris Stapleton,” Perry said. “You are authentic.”

Bryan said Peay’s performance gave him “chills.”

“That is about as heading down the top 10 road that I’ve ever heard in my whole life,” Ritchie said. “I’m telling you, he’s strong — and he’s top 10.”

“What an incredible experience! Tonight, I performed for the Idol judges and got the golden ticket to Hollywood! Praise God for this amazing opportunity, and a huge shoutout and thank you to everyone who has supported me in starting this journey. Be Blessed!” Peay posted on his Instagram after the audition.

Peay leads worship for his church in Bamberg, South Carolina, and will continue onto the AMERICAN IDOL rounds in Hollywood, California where he will again perform for the judges.

Movieguide® previously reported on another worship leader who recently wowed the judges on THE VOICE:

A former Lee University worship leader landed a spot on Blake Shelton’s final team on this season of THE VOICE.

Carlos Rising, who graduated from the Christian university in 2017, performed “Change the World” by Eric Clapton for his blind audition, which aired on March 7.

The North Carolina-based singer wowed the judges with his “insane” voice and “controlled rasp.”

“I hit my button because I thought you have what it takes to be on this show,” judge Kelly Clarkson told Rising.

“When I first moved to Nashville, it was just me and my guitar,” Shelton said. “When I see someone like you up there performing, that’s what gets me excited. Somebody that I’ve never heard anything like before.”
