Former NHL player Nate Prosser shared how he came to know Jesus in a Sports Spectrum I ONCE WAS interview.
“I grew up in a Christian household going to church on Sundays, and we made sure we didn’t skip for sports. Deep down, we always kind of knew where our foundation was,” Prosser said.
“Eventually I got to the point where I knew I couldn’t get to heaven through good works, and I knew I needed that personal relationship with Jesus,” he added.
Prosser realized this need for a relationship with Jesus when he started attending the Wednesday night youth services at Emmanuel Christian Center just a few cities over.
“The impact it had on me—seeing everybody worshipping together, raising their hands together and being on fire for the Lord together—was something that made my hair stand up and sent shivers up my spine. It hit me hard knowing we’re all as one under the body of Christ,” Prosser said.
The youth group pastor asked students to raise their hands if they had never accepted Jesus as their Savior. Prosser raised his hand and hasn’t looked back since.
“It’s been a part of my foundation and who I am throughout my career,” Prosser concluded.
“I made a promise to the Lord like, ‘Hey, if you get me to the NHL and let me have a career, I’m going to be a vessel for you,’” Nate Prosser said in an interview shared on his Instagram.
Prosser went undrafted. However in the late 2009-2010 season, he signed for the Minnesota Wild and made his NHL debut on April 5, 2010, where he logged an assist and a four-minute double minor penalty for high sticking his opponent.
Prosser played in 360 games, scored 11 goals and finished with 38 total assists as a defenseman.
