MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING 3

What You Need To Know:

In the third installation of the MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING franchise, Toula wants to fulfill her father’s dying wish, to give his journal to his three childhood friends. Toula, her husband, her brother, and other members of the family, embark on the adventure across the ocean to their Greek homeland in search of the three friends. However, the task turns out to be harder than Toula foresaw. Will Toula and her family band together?

MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING 3 is funny and heartfelt at its best, with a strong emphasis on family, loving one another and continuing your family’s legacy. Sadly, the movie is bogged down with cookie-cutter plot points and character developments. Moreover, the movie has three strong profanities, a scene of drunkenness and a comical visit to a nude beach. MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING 3 has a superstitious character who talks about “Greek voodoo” and other mystical solutions to life’s problems. In addition, a central character identifies herself as “non-binary” and there’s a pride flag in the background of one scene. This last politically correct content is off-putting.

Content:

(Pa, BB, C, FR, O, PCPC, HoHo, L, S, N, AA, M)

Dominant Worldview and Other Worldview Content/Elements:
Mixed pagan worldview with some moral elements such as a strong emphasis on the importance and love of family, a Christian monk is a minor side character, and there’s a cross on a funeral urn, mixed with superstitious elements where one superstitious character talks about “Greek voodoo” and other mystical solutions to life’s problems, and there’s some politically correct, pro-homosexual content where a central character considers herself “non-binary,” and a few other references to homosexuality include a “pride” flag in the background in one scene

Foul Language:
Three barely heard obscenities like d*mn (such as when characters take a cold shower), three strong exclamations involving the name of Jesus and three light profanities

Violence:
No violence

Sex:
Several warnings and jokes about not having a baby too soon when two people start dating, and a central character describes herself as feeling both like a female and a male (this is later confirmed when the character joins both the female and male specific dances during a wedding)

Nudity:
A character finds herself on a nude beach, all the men and women are naked, but no genitalia are shown because they are cleverly obstructed from view, the character takes off her bathing suit, but only her bare back is seen, a man is seen naked twice with only his genitalia blocked from view (the nudity is meant for comedy and is not sexual), plus some upper male nudity Alcohol Use/Abuse: Alcohol can be seen throughout (including drinking at parties), and in one scene the main character gets drunk and has a hangover

Smoking and/or Drug Use and Abuse:
No smoking or drugs; and,

Miscellaneous Immorality:
A mayor uses subterfuge to get people to visit a small village.

More Detail:

In MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING 3, Toula wants to fulfill her father’s dying wish and get an old journal to his childhood friends in Greece. MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING 3 has some heartfelt, pro-family, funny moments, but it’s marred by comical references to Greek voodoo, brief foul language and politically correct content.

Toula’s mother is struggling with her health. So, the rest of the family boards a plane to Greece to visit their father’s homeland and, hopefully, find his three childhood friends. Meanwhile, there is family drama that could make the trip uncomfortable for some.

The family is excited to spend time together. However, when they arrive, they don’t receive the warm welcome they expected. Their hometown village only has six people living there, but the self-elected “non-binary” female mayor, Victory, is determined to make the family reunion happen. Toula grows discouraged at the lack of other people. She’s worried she won’t be able to find her father’s three friends.

During their stay in Greece, Toula’s family must band together after making a shocking discovery about their family tree. Meanwhile, will Toula fulfill her father’s dying wish?

The third installation of the MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING franchise is funny at times. Sadly, however, the movie is bogged down with cookie-cutter plot points and character developments. It’s also marred by politically correct LGBT elements, three strong profanities, and a comical visit to a nude beach. That said, the movie has some genuine, heartfelt moments that emphasize family, and the importance of showing love to one another.

Greek culture is also well portrayed in the movie, and the many parties and dinners are vibrant and fun to watch. If the first MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING is remembered for its nostalgic, mid-2000s romance, then this third movie in the franchise will be remembered for its colorful, vibrant celebration of Greece.

Ultimately, MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING 3 has some glaring moral issues that distract from its funnier moments and from the heartfelt moments that do celebrate family. The politically correct content is off-putting.
