Disney to Release 100 Movie Limited-Edition Collection

By Movieguide® Contributor

Disney will release its Disney Legacy Animated Film Collection, containing 100 classic animated movies, this November.

“The set is festooned with original poster designs and comes with digital codes for every movie, alongside a lithograph from Disney’s upcoming feature WISH, a certificate of authenticity and crystal Mickey Mouse ears engraved with the “Disney 100” logo,” The Wrap reported.

Pre-orders for the collection begin on September 18 via Walmart, with a retail price of $1,500.

The limited-edition box set features movies from the Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, DisneyToons Studios and even movies produced outside Disney’s animation studios, such as THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH and FRANKENWEENIE.

Movies span from 1940 through 2023, including classics like SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS (1937), ALICE IN WONDERLAND (1951), TOY STORY (1995), FINDING NEMO (2003) and FROZEN (2013).

However, the collection also features recent box office bombs, like LIGHTYEAR and STRANGE WORLD, which promoted LGBTQ and politically correct agendas.

As Disney looks back to share classics, the entertainment giant is also looking to the future.

“In order to continue the legacy celebrated in the new collection, Disney is already working on new animated stories meant to be enjoyed by the whole family,” Collider reported.

“The next time Pixar launches a project in theaters will be marked by ELIO, a tale where a young boy is chosen by an intergalactic organization as the ambassador of Earth. After that, INSIDE OUT 2 will take viewers back to Riley and her unpredictable group of emotions, in a sequel to the 2015 smash hit. Walt Disney Animation Studios haven’t revealed their plans for what can be expected beyond WISH, with more information set to be revealed at some point in the future,” it concluded.

As Movieguide® frequently reports, if Disney wants future productions to succeed, it should focus on movies that celebrate family values and promote moral, uplifting content.

Movieguide® previously reported:

The studio’s last two offerings, LIGHTYEAR and STRANGE WORLD, both suffered at the box office for multiple reasons, but the biggest one is content.

Both LIGHTYEAR and STRANGE WORLD failed to find their footing with audiences and failed at the box office — LIGHTYEAR made $226 million off a $200 million budget, while STRANGE WORLD majorly flopped, making just $70 million off a $180 million budget.

Each of these movies featured content that was not family-friendly, which meant many parents chose not to take their children to the theater…

If Disney wants to get back on track, they should take note of previous successes such as TOY STORY 3 and FINDING NEMO which upheld moral, pro-family values.
