Sadie Robertson Huff on Cancel Culture, Target, Disney World

By Movieguide® Contributor

On a recent episode of her “WHOA That’s Good” podcast, Sadie Robertson Huff and her mom, Korie Roberston, discuss cancel culture and why Christians need to fight against it.

Huff recently experienced social backlash for posting about a large baptism event at her LO Sister Conference. Many fans unfollowed her on her social media, upset that she was posting about the Gospel.

Only days later, she experienced more backlash after her family took a trip to Disney World, with many of her fans saying she had “gone woke.”

Because of this whiplash experience, Huff and Robertson explored what the Bible says about cancel culture.

Throughout His ministry, Jesus entered into places filled with sinners. “He was reclining with them, but He wasn’t living like them. He didn’t agree with them. He was perfectly in truth, perfectly in holiness, perfectly being God,” Huff said.

In the same way, she and her family are not sinning when they go to a place like Disney World, even if Disney holds anti-Christian beliefs.

“My holiness isn’t defined by where I’m at, it’s defined by who is in me,” Huff explained. “So, I’m not all of the sudden—this is what people say on Instagram—‘Oh, if I’m in Disney World, that means I stand for everything Disney stands for. That means that I agree with everything that Disney says.’”

“No…[If] I go to a place that might have sinners around that doesn’t mean I all of a sudden become a sinner,” she continued. “That doesn’t mean I become and take on everything that that place stands for. That doesn’t change who I am or what’s inside of me—my holiness isn’t defined by where I’m at, it’s defined by who is in me.”

If Christians completely avoided places that were un-Christian, then the world would be a much darker place. We are called to be the light of the world and to share that light with others—whether or not they know Jesus.

Therefore, Huff explains, Christians should not judge other Christians for the spaces they enter into.

“I think that, you know, what the scripture is kind of telling us is like we don’t need to judge people who make it a determination to [go or] not to go to Disney,” she said. “Disney is one example. There’s a gazillion, you know, once you start going down that road.”

However, this does not mean that we should make decisions without the guidance of God, nor should we not challenge other Christians who seem to be doing the same.

“If you make your decision off of the opinion of man, you are going to be tossed to and fro like the waves of the ocean. I mean, you are just going to never be on solid ground, you know.” Huff said. “You’ll get too far this way, and you’ll be too weird because you’re Christian, and then you’ll be a Christian, and then you’ll go back, and I see a lot of celebrities like kind of fall when they get in that dance.

Movieguide® previously reported on Huff’s LO Sister Conference:

Sadie Robertson Huff is sharing a behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming Live Original Sister Conference.

“A year of planning, preparing and praying for 3,000 + to step into a place of experiencing the goodness of God and encouraged to MOVE out of the conference filled with the light that the world needs!” Huff captioned a video from the conference set-up.

The video shows a giant wall of Post-It notes spelling out “MOVE!”

“These sticky note boards will be over the doors as everyone walks into conference and the sticky notes have the names of every single person coming to conference,” Huff continued. “3,000 + names with 3,000 + stories. crazy to think that God knows each of us BY name and has our story in mind. our team and volunteers have spent so much time bringing all of the details to life – I hope this little act of intention will show you a glimpse of the love and intention He has for you!”
