Pastor Warns Against WitchTok’s ‘Counterfeit Power’
By Movieguide® Contributor
WitchTok, another dangerous side of TikTok, promotes witches as they show off their hexes, spells and other dark magic and has accumulated 30 billion views.
“TikTok’s #witch hashtag has received nearly 20 billion views, #witchtiktok has nearly two billion views, and #babywitch, a hashtag for those new to the craft, has more than 600 million views,” the BBC reported.
This dark side of TikTok has nearly doubled since 2021. That year, Movieguide® reported that WitchTok had amassed 18 billion views.
A tarot reader told the New York Post about why he believes WitchTok continues to trend: “WitchTok content is so relevant right now because we learned last year (during the COVID pandemic) we can’t control (things). All you can control is what you do, all you can control is what you think is truth in the world.”
But instead of turning to the one who does have control—God—many young people, women especially, have turned to magic. They believe it gives them a sense of power.
Popular witchtoker Ayla Skinner said, “Witchcraft, paganism, it all gives you a bit of control back, you can live your life how you want.”
However, Pastor Mike Signorelli says that this false sense of security is a common trap in witchcraft.
“All throughout Scripture, witchcraft actually shows up as counterfeit comfort and counterfeit power.” He said, “It’s always going to show up in a form to make you think, ‘Oh, this is how I’m going to meet the love of my life. This is how I’m going to prosper financially. This is how I’m going to excel in life.’ It always comes in the form of success.”
Movieguide® founder Dr. Ted Baehr affirms that only God can satisfy.
“All the false religions and occult practices failed ultimately to deliver because the adversary promises but never really delivers,” says Dr. Baehr. “In contrast, Jesus Christ always delivers on his great promises, such as His promise to give each of us a more abundant life and freedom.
Movieguide® previously reported how Satan uses witchcraft as a tool:
“The worship and seeking of supernatural powers other than God have been around since the beginning,” Bible Study Tools explained. “Satan has used witchcraft to prevent people from finding holy spirituality in God alone.”
“He uses witchcraft such as mediums, horoscopes, and games to entice people away from God and toward a power that gives self-enlightenment,” the outlet continued. “The Bible speaks often on the consequences of following false idols and falsehood.”
