Chip and Joanna Gaines Celebrate ‘Sweet Season’ Of Parenthood
By Movieguide® Contributor
Chip and Joanna Gaines are reflecting on this “sweet season” of parenthood they’re currently in.
“I know that I’m their mother but they just feel like just your friends,” Joanna said during an interview.
The couple are parents to Drake, 18, Ella, 16, Duke, 15, Emmie, 13, and Crew, 5.
“It’s just a sweet season where the older they get, just the connection that’s there. Like, I want to hang out with them,” she continued. “And then the 5-year-old, that just helps with perspective. Like, hold on tight. They grow up really fast.”
The couple also talked about what it was like to send Drake off to college.
Joanna said she cried when he left, while Chip joked, “I would have cried if the boy stayed any longer.”
Chip and Joanna also reflected on what they’ve built over the course of their relationship, from family to business. The couple’s lifestyle brand, Magnolia, recently celebrated its 20th anniversary.
“It’s just like, ‘Wow, man — a lot happened,’” Chip said. “And you really didn’t get time to stop and really smell the roses while it was occurring. But now, for whatever reason, we really feel like we’re in just a really nice place.”
Joanna marked the anniversary with an Instagram post, writing, “Back in 2003, we could have never dreamed of any of this. Grateful for the wonderful memories, the mistakes and mishaps, and all the miracles along the way. Thank you for being a part of this journey with us.”
Movieguide® previously reported on the Gaines’ success with Magnolia:
Magnolia has grown over the years and now includes a successful TV network, books, magazines, restaurants and shops.
“We started Magnolia with that simple rallying cry back in 2003,” the couple wrote on the Magnolia website. “And what was true then is still true today: home is our favorite place to be. Throughout all the joys and challenges that life brings, home always seems to be right in the middle of it. It’s what catches us, and also what lifts us up. It’s where we retreat, where we are restored, and also where we bring our community together to share a meal at the table. But we’ve learned that home doesn’t have to be a physical destination. Any place you feel you feel known, loved, and always welcomed back is a home of its own.”
They continued, “We believe these things so deeply that everything we do at Magnolia is in pursuit of inspiring people to create a home and a life they love. And whether you find us mostly online or at the Market here in Waco, inside the pages of our magazine or on the shows of Magnolia Network, it is our ongoing desire that any time you spend with us will help guide you there.”
