In an interview with Billboard, Tori Kelly reflected on the support she received after a health scare earlier this year and shared how her latest music is taking her in a new direction.

Kelly was hospitalized at the end of July after collapsing during dinner. The doctors identified blood clots around her legs and lungs, which could have proved to be deadly. Thankfully, the singer made a full recovery and is now taking preventative medication to protect against future blood clots.

While in the hospital, Kelly received an outpouring of love from her friends and fans.

“It was a scary few days, but I’m so happy that I had like a really good support system around me. I was mind blown by all the love and support,” she told Billboard.

Perhaps the most memorable person she received support from was Beyoncé, who sent her a massive flower arrangement.

“I got a lot of flowers but when Beyoncé’s flowers showed up, it’s like, oh yeah, those are obviously Beyoncé’s. They were massive,” Kelly recalled.

To show her appreciation for all the support she received, the singer announced she would go on tour when she was healthy again to give back to her fans.

“It is honestly a dream come true,” she said of the tour. “I was looking forward to this tour for a while. And then I think now with everything that’s happened health wise too, I’m just even more grateful.”

The same week Kelly was hospitalized, she released a new EP and highlighted those songs during the tour.

“My last full-length album was even before 2020. That album was a lot more sad, and I had gone through a lot of things personally, with family and all theses different things,” she said. “So growing from that, having a lor of healing, being in love and just wanting to express that feeling – this new wave of confidence [came] over me and all of that, I just put [that] into the music and hopefully you can hear that.”

“I just think I’m in just this new place in my life where I’m willing to have a little more fun and experiment with sounds and style,” Kelly continued.

She also hinted at a new album, adding, “there’s definitely more where this EP came from.”

Tori Kelly says she’s feeling “great” following her collapse and hospitalization earlier this year.

“It’s been a crazy few months, a crazy year,” the Grammy-winning singer said during an appearance on THE JENNIFER HUDSON SHOW. “I actually ended up collapsing one night and they found out that I had blood clots. It was really crazy and scary.”

Kelly continued, “My family was definitely there for me. I had a peace throughout most of it, but I was just kinda confused and wondering what was going on. I thankfully had some amazing doctors who were able to just take care of everything and get me healthy.”
