Singer Cory Asbury Almost Joined YELLOWSTONE Cast

By Movieguide® Contributor

Christian artist Cory Asbury recently revealed he almost played another Dutton brother on YELLOWSTONE.

“I was fired up about it and so bummed when it was canceled,” Asbury shared. “So bummed.”

The singer was set to join the cast for a proposed sixth season, but it was recently announced that YELLOWSTONE would end after the fifth season.

“I was supposed to be Kayce’s long-lost brother,” Asbury explained, referring to Luke Grimes’ character.

Asbury and his family were even planning to move to where the show is filmed in Montana for a year.

“We were ready,” he explained. “Anna [his wife] gave me the okay and our kids were like, ‘Okay, cool, we’ll live in Montana.’”

He also revealed that he was asked not to share any news about his casting but, seeing as how the show has been canceled, figured it was now okay to spill the beans.

YELLOWSTONE might be ending, but there are still plenty of adventures left to explore in that world.

Chris McCarthy, the President and CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios, shared plans for two new spin-offs, 1944 and 2024, which “will take audiences on a thrilling, new and unexpected journey with the complex and compelling storytelling that has become a hallmark of the franchise and has helped turn it into a worldwide cultural phenomenon,” per TVInsider.

The final installment of the show is slated to release Nov. 2024.

Asbury’s acting career might be on hold for now, but his music career is still going strong.

He just released a music video for “Kind,” a single off his latest album “Pioneer.”

“I can’t wait for y’all to see this music video,” Asbury said before the video’s release. “It’s raw, real and visceral and it’ll leave you in a puddle in awe of the kindness of Jesus.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Asbury’s album:

Cory Asbury just released “Pioneer”—his first album in nearly three years—but the sound and stories told might surprise some listeners.

“Pioneer” is the culmination of the last three years of Asbury’s life. He has seen much change as his family moved from Michigan to a seven-acre farm in Nashville. He and his wife have also stepped away from full-time ministry for now—the first time they haven’t been on staff at a church in 19 years.

“Pioneer” tells Asbury’s stories. Rather than confine himself to typical Christian music sounds, Asbury explored the organic sounds he loves. While the album may not be what fans expect, it’s an authentic look into his life.

“Everyone’s saying on social media, ‘you’re Country Cory now,’ but it’s not fully in that lane,” he said. “And even if it was, I wouldn’t mind. But I think the beauty of that kind of music is that it’s very story-driven, very narrative-driven. And you know, that’s the tradition of country music. You’re telling a story, you’re bringing the listener in and hopefully, you’re giving them a lesson through this story.”
