Alexa PenaVega: ‘Marriage Is This Beautiful, Holy Thing’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Alexa PenaVega discussed the ups and downs of marriage in a recent interview.
“I’ve always told people, I’m like, ‘The truth is marriage is this beautiful, holy thing. It’s a sacred thing. And you go through bumps,’” Alexa said of her marriage to Carlos PenaVega. “There was a time in our marriage where if we were not married, we would have broken up.”
She continued, “But that’s the beauty of marriage. You fight through it, you fix it, you work on it. And I feel like we’re stronger than ever because of those bumps. Even though they were hard seasons, we pushed through, and we soared.”
PenaVega explained that, while she and her husband have different approaches to situations and problems, “prayer has been a huge thing” for their relationship.
“Life gets tough. It’s really, really hard,” she said. “But taking that moment to just sit down and really kind of communicate. I know that sounds so cliche, but it’s true. It’s when we’re not communicating very well that we start to hit bumps in the road.”
The couple have been married since 2014 and share three children — Ocean, 6, Kingston, 4, and Rio, 2 — and are expecting baby No. 4!
“Thank God we love adventures,” the couple announced in a joint Instagram post. “Oh baby here we come! Número cuatro!”
In addition to preparing for the new baby, the PenaVegas are giving back this holiday season through their partnership with the Salvation Army.
“They’re amazing,” Alexa said of the organization. “We’ve watched them give back firsthand in our own community…They do so much. They show up for people all around the US, all around the world, [and] they just work together really, really well.”
Carlos added, “That act of giving — giving to give, and not just to receive — I think that’s so beautiful. We’re just encouraging everyone out there. It feels good to give!”
Alexa has also partnered with WorldVision this holiday season. Movieguide® previously reported:
SPY KIDS star Alexa PenaVega made a trip to the World Vision Toy Distribution Center, where she brought “some pre-Christmas joy” to families this holiday season.
“I think having kids just magnifies the entire experience. I know how little kids are. I know what it feels like to be sad and lonely and to see that kind of community come together today…it was exciting,” she said of her time.
PenaVega designed a bracelet that will be featured in the World Vision gift catalog for this holiday season.
“I’m so excited to share that I’ve partnered with @worldvisionusa on designing the beautiful Seeds of Change bracelet for this year’s gift catalog,” she wrote on her Instagram. “Proceeds make a lasting impact on kids in need around the world and would make great gifts this holiday season! #GiftsThatGrow!”
