Angel Studios’ THE SHIFT held a top-ten ranking for its second consecutive weekend in theatres.
Per a recent press release, THE SHIFT, “the debut original theatrical release from Angel Studios, the studio behind the summer blockbuster SOUND OF FREEDOM, continues a strong run at the box office and remains in the Top 10 for its second weekend in theaters.”
“This project is resonating in an amazing fashion, with fans seeing the film in theaters multiple times, creating their own fan-networks, and overwhelming our team with merch orders,” said Brandon Purdie, Executive Vice President of Global Theatrical Distribution at Angel Studios.
THE SHIFT has debuted in 2,415 theaters across the nation. Per the press release, the movie had a projected $2,159,077 weekend earnings. The total cume box office projection is $8,501,877. It has currently earned $8,463,761 with 807,395 tickets sold.
The movie earned an 87 Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score. Many viewers shared their praise for the movie.
One audience review reads, “Very well done movie. This was a phenomenal film that actually kept you on the edge of your seat, while also being an uplifting story. They didn’t have to lean on using sex/nudity or vulgar language to make a movie that people want to watch. What a concept!! (Hollywood stop doing this…) I loved the scene where he starts praying in front of the bad guy. Great actors all around.”
“I thought they did a great job taking a Bible story and making [it] into a ‘mainstream acceptable’ movie without making it feel like we were in a Sunday School class. It felt like it was a mesh of INCEPTION, MINORITY REPORT and a Bible story of Job and they did it perfectly. The acting, the story, the sets…all of it was fantastic,” another review read.
“In this modern-day retelling of Job, Kevin Garner (Kristoffer Polaha) embarks on a journey across worlds and dimensions to reunite with Molly (Elizabeth Tabish), his true love. The narrative unfolds as a dystopian drama and sci-fi thriller, where a mysterious adversary, The Benefactor (Neal McDonough), disrupts Kevin’s reality. Faced with infinite worlds and impossible choices, Kevin must navigate through an alternate reality, resisting The Benefactor’s tempting offer of wealth and power. As survival hangs in the balance, Kevin fights to return to the familiar world he cherishes and the woman he loves,” a synopsis of the film reads.
Part of Movieguide®’s review reads:
THE SHIFT is one of the most moving, inventive, compelling, and powerful faith-based movies ever made. The writing, acting and directing are superb. THE SHIFT has a strong Christian, moral worldview. It contains strong allegorical, overt and beautiful references to God, Scripture, the Resurrection, and the Empty Tomb. The hero prays and rebuffs the Devil. However, THE SHIFT has some action violence where people are shot and alcohol use. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for pre-teenage children.
Movieguide® recently reported on THE SHIFT:
Actor Neal McDonough calls his role in THE SHIFT “one of the greatest challenges I’ve ever had.”
“The importance of playing that character as truthfully as possible was one of the greatest challenges I’ve ever had as an actor,” he explained, adding that he “wanted to play [the character] as he’s your next-door neighbor.”
McDonough said, “He seems like a really nice guy. That’s a guy I’d like to hang out with. And then, all of a sudden, everything just kind of gets too dark, and he loses his faith. Lucifer lost his faith in God a long time ago. And I played this character that all I want is that faith back,”
“That last scene that I have with Kevin [played by Kristoffer Polaha] is one of the most painful scenes I’ve had as an actor because I have to dredge up all these thoughts that get me to why don’t I have that in my life? Why can’t I be more like Kevin?” the actor said. “For us as the viewers, Why can’t we all be more like that and have the conviction and the strength to stand up to all the evil temptations in life and just say no?”
