Julie Chen Moonves On Faith Journey: ‘God Has Blessed Me’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Julie Chen Moonves is sharing why she needed her life to be “turned upside down” to find her faith.
“I’ve matured as a human being because I have matured with Christ,” she said during a conversation with Sadie Robertson Huff on her “WHOA That’s Good” podcast.
Moonves continued, “God has blessed me with so many different jobs and…this career and so many different platforms to speak publicly that if I don’t use the gifts and blessings He gave me to publicly now speak to the whole community…then I’m not doing my part.”
She also spoke about why she needed her life to fall apart before she found God.
“Sometimes we need to fall down,” she explained. “We need that shift in our life. Something has to change. I look back because, you know, hindsight is 20/20, and I see [my life] wasn’t great at all. It was filled with false idols, no God, busyness, no peace and, to be frank, a few people who weren’t real friends…I needed my life to be turned upside down.”
Moonves continued, “When you’re going through a dark time, it’s actually during those dark times that the light shines the brightest, so use it and try to reframe how you think…instead of calling something a problem, call it an opportunity to sit still and listen to what God is trying to say to you.”
Moonves has now made her faith an integral part of both her life and work.
“I have let it be known that I don’t want to take on any other projects unless it is faith-based,” she told The Christian Post. “I’m not interested in doing another daily talk show unless it’s a faith-based one. God has blessed me with the various jobs that I’ve had in my life so that now, moving forward, any job that I have, any platform that I have, I want to use it to advance His Kingdom agenda, to spread the Word. I don’t want to spend time doing anything unless it’s in the faith space.”
She is also committed to sharing her faith publicly.
“One of the big things I learned is: If you do not declare publicly…who he is to you or what he has done for you, why should he go before God the Father when…my time is up here on Earth?” Moonves explained. “So, I have to stand firm, and say it loud, and say it proud, what he has done for me and who he is.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Moonves’ faith journey:
For Moonves, the most remarkable part of her conversion was understanding God’s love for the world.
“I didn’t know how much God loves me, and I didn’t know how much God loves everyone, and He has no favorites. So, like, I didn’t realize, like, the person that I thought or the people in my head that I thought were, you know, my enemy—my adversary—the person that I have a hard time loving…I better find a treasure cause God loves that person,” she said.
This realization allows her to see others as God does—with an inherent value that cannot be taken away or destroyed.
“I couldn’t do any of this until I started learning who God is and why He created us. He created all of us to glorify Him and to love one another.”
