Texans QB Case Keenum Praises God After Overtime Win
By Movieguide® Contributor
Houston Texans quarterback Case Keenum shared his gratitude for God after lifting his team to a 19-16 overtime win against the Tennessee Titans, Sports Spectrum reported.
“I just have to thank God for putting me right here in this sport with this team,” Keenum said during an on-field interview after the win. “It’s such an incredible opportunity. I’m loving every minute of it.”
“Wearing the name of ‘Houston’ on the front of my jersey, which I’ve done for a long time, and to get to do it again and represent for our city, for our team, it means a lot. It really does,” he added during the postgame press conference. “I’m built for this. I’ve been in a lot of situations, I’ve been in a lot of systems, been in a lot of different games. And God’s made me who I am for this. For moments like this.”

Though Keenum has bounced around the NFL throughout his decade-long career, he got his start with the Texans in 2012 as an undrafted free agent. He got his first professional start during his sophomore season, helming the team for eight games in place of the injured Matt Schaub.
Keenum has been unable to land a consistent starting position throughout his career. However, his faith in the Lord has allowed him to remain positive throughout it all.
“You realize that football is fickle; it’s not going to be there all the time,” he said in 2017 while playing for the Minnesota Vikings. “Just getting my priorities straight and knowing the true reason I play the game, and that’s to give glory to God. That’s something I take pride in. It’s why I do what I do.”
In 2018, he wrote a book – “Playing for More: Trust Beyond What You Can See” – chronicling God’s faithfulness throughout his NFL career.
“It’s been neat to see what God has done in my life,” Keenum told Sports Spectrum in 2018. “We want this book to be about glorifying God and ultimately hopefully pointing people to Christ. If it blesses somebody, encourages somebody, challenges somebody from the things that I’ve messed up, the things that I’ve done well, that’s kind of what I want people to take away.”
“It’s my story; God has intricately placed every detail with masterful perfection,” he continued. “We wanted God to be glorified. It’s not my story. It’s God’s story told through me.”
Movieguide® previously reported on the faith found on Houston’s team:
The Houston Texans recently hired former player DeMeco Ryans as their new head coach after missing out on the 2023 NFL playoffs.
“When it came down to it, there is no place I wanted to be [more] than [Houston],” Ryans said at a recent press conference, who was in high demand around the league. “It was an easy pick. For me, it’s a no-brainer. To be here, to be home, it’s a no-brainer, so it wasn’t a difficult decision at all.”
Ryans played six seasons with the Texans as a linebacker and made the Pro Bowl twice in his career.
The former player retired in 2015, and in 2017 started his coaching career with the San Francisco 49ers.
Throughout his success in the NFL as a player and coach, Ryans is open about his Christian faith.
“I didn’t know it at the time, but I’m so happy for my mom instilling that into me at a young age,” Ryans told Sports Spectrum in 2020. “Because now as I continue to grow older and older, that’s the only thing that truly matters. That’s the only thing — our relationship with Jesus Christ.”
