Texans Head Coach Says ‘God Has Blessed Us’ After Wild-Card Win

By Movieguide® Contributor

Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans gave God the glory after his team’s Saturday win against the Cleaveland Browns.

“Just thankful again for this,” Ryans said. “Just gracious. Man, we’re blessed. Our team is special. God has blessed us tremendously, and we’re giving Him all the glory, honor and praise for where we are.”

Texans quarterback CJ Stroud, who is also a Christian, was instrumental in the team’s 45-14 victory over the Browns.

“C.J. is the reason we’re in this position. He’s special. A special young man, special player. He continues to shine no matter how big the moment is,” Ryans told NBC Sports after the game. “Our whole team is leaning on him and he has the shoulders to carry that weight, and he shows up week after week, continues to improve week after week. No moment is too big for him. The confidence he gives to our whole team is so cool to watch, and we’re looking forward to moving on.”

“I truly believe that God’s grace is over our team. I don’t shy away from saying that because I believe it,” the coach said.

Per Fox sportscaster Will Kunkel, “DeMeco says his faith played a big role in believing he could help turn the Texans franchise into a winner.”

Ryans has spoken about his faith in the past.

“It just reminds you that you got to keep the main thing the main thing,” Ryan said, per Sports Spectrum. “That’s why we’re all here, and that’s by the grace of God. Why are we in the position that we’re in? Why are we able to do what we do? That’s by God blessing us with this awesome opportunity to reach back and teach these young men, help these young men, but we have to stay grounded in the Word. We can get caught up in our work, a lot of long hours, a lot of long days, but you can’t forget what sustains us, and that’s Jesus Christ.”

On Saturday, the Texans will face a 13-4 Baltimore Ravens.

Movieguide® previously reported on Stroud:

The Houston Texans rookie quarterback CJ Stroud thanked God for the opportunity for his team to go to the playoffs.

On Saturday night, the Texans claimed a 23-19 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, securing a spot in the playoffs.

“Man, it’s a blessing. I can’t do nothing but thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” Stroud said, becoming emotional.

“I put a lot of work in, my team has. Everybody counted us out from the start, so it’s just special to see the city of Houston just on the come-up again,” he continued. “I’m just blessed enough to be the vessel that Christ picked to lead this great franchise. So, I can do nothing but just thank the Lord.”
