Former Disney Star Embraces Motherhood: ‘The Biggest Gift’

Former Disney star Bridgit Mendler is taking on motherhood and a new career.

“The other news I wanted to share is I’m a mama to a sweet 4yo boy. Started fostering in 2021 adopted near Christmas of 2022. I’m so lucky — being a parent is the biggest gift and most defining experience there is…that’s my news for now folks,” she posted on X.

The post included a photo of a beach sunset with the silhouette of the actress and her son.

In addition to her growing family, Mendler also announced that she’s the CEO of a space startup company called Northwood.

In a separate X post on the same day, she said, “Expect the unexpected! So excited to announce our $6.3M seed led by @foundersfund and @a16z with participation from @CapitalAlso, @LongJourneyVC, @BoxGroup, @humbavc.”

She continued, “At @NorthwoodSpace we have our sights on building a data highway between earth and space. We are designing shared ground infrastructure from first principles to expand access to space.”

Mendler is starting the company with her husband, Griffin Cleverly, and head of software, Shaurya Luthra.

“The vision is a data highway between Earth and space,” she told CNBC. “Space is getting easier along so many different dimensions but still the actual exercise of sending data to and from space is difficult. You have difficulty finding an access point for contacting your satellite.”

Mendler’s company plans to produce ground stations that make contact with space satellites. “For me, why the ground-side matters is because it actually is about bringing the impacts of space home to people,” she said.

She’s best known for her role in Disney shows like GOOD LUCK CHARLIE, which aired from 2010-2014, and WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE, which aired from 2010-2012.
