Grand Canyon University basketball player Gabe McGlothan thanked God during his prayer before the team’s annual senior night game.
“Lord, I just want to thank you just for the opportunity to be out. Just over these past few years, just being here at GCU,” McGlothan began. “And I want to thank You just for the faith that you have here, Lord. And most of all, I want to thank You for your son, Jesus, and what he did for us on the cross—giving us the hope and a future that we can believe that we will be in heaven one day.”
“And so Lord, I just want to pray for the officials, I want to pray for the players, the coaches, and just even the fans here too tonight,” he continued. “That they can all get home safely. And most of all I can pray that just that we go out here and play for your glory. In Jesus name, Amen.”
“What a pleasure it has been to watch you play and become a great leader over the years!!” one fan commented. “You have been a wonderful role model for our grandchildren that come to the games!! You will be greatly missed.”
“Been an absolute joy following your journey on and off the court. May God continue to bless you now and forever. Let’s bring that WAC title home again,” another follower wrote.
McGlothan shared his thoughts about his final game at home.
“Lope nation! Thank you for making my time playing at GCU arena an experience I’ll never forget! I have enough memories to last me a lifetime! Let’s now go make more in March! God bless,” McGlothan commented on a post from GCU Men’s Basketball.
McGlothan frequently speaks about his faith
“What’s your purpose? Is it to win a basketball game? Yes, that’s important to me, but the more important thing is giving God the glory and shining His light,” he said, per Sports Spectrum.
Movieguide® previously reported on McGlothan:
“The way you store up treasures in heaven, is by investing in the people around you,” he wrote.
He added, “Don’t stop becoming rich in making believers in Christ. Growing up, before I had my faith, I always imagined if I were on a deserted island. What I would rather have with me? All the materialistic things I could ever imagine or a simple friend. I knew one I could last a lifetime with, a friend, and the other I’d get bored of eventually, the materialistic. Investing in my brothers is the best thing I’ve ever done.”
“These relationships that are being carried out through this season are ones that I cherish more than anything else because it’s rooted with God’s love,” the forward continued. “They’re my brothers and best of all it’s great to see them become my Brothers in Christ. This is a treasure that be rich all the way into eternity. Blessed for you brothers, love you into eternity.
