Erin Krakow Hints at WHEN CALLS THE HEART Character’s Romantic Future

WHEN CALLS THE HEART actress Erin Krakow recently spoke to TV Insider about the show’s Season 11 premiere, hinting at her character’s romantic future.

TV Insider reported, “Season 10 ended with Elizabeth at her late husband’s grave, and her words did imply that she saw Lucas as the ‘safe’ option, as someone whose loss wouldn’t affect her like Jack’s did.”

“So, to speak to how Elizabeth was feeling at the grave at Jack’s grave when she was mentioning that she had, I guess, inadvertently sought out something safe, yeah, I think you’re right,” Krakow acknowledged. “I think she was absolutely frozen and petrified over the idea that she might love again and find herself as broken as she was when Jack passed.”

The actress went on to explain that Elizabeth’s love for Jack didn’t diminish her relationship with Lucas, but she realized that they weren’t meant to be.

“I don’t think she was even aware of it when she made the decision to choose Lucas, that she was, you know, call it ‘choosing safe love over great love,’ but there was this very slow awakening to the fact that they weren’t meant to be,” she said.

She also addressed Elizabeth’s fear that Nathan doesn’t have feelings for her.

“Elizabeth’s fear that perhaps Nathan doesn’t have feelings for her anymore,” Krakow said. “That moment on the steps is maybe the first moment in Season 11 where Elizabeth wonders ‘Oh did he just look at me?’”

Krakow went on to explain how this season is a “dance” between the two as they navigate how the other feels.

“They wouldn’t want to do damage to a friendship that they worked really hard to build just in the off chance that they’re misreading,” she said.

Krakow also revealed that there shouldn’t be any more love triangles this season.

“Not that we are going anywhere near a triangle again, but obviously it does complicate things a little bit to have Lucas around when she and Nathan are trying to kind of explore what comes next for them,” she said. “So, we’ll see how much time they’re spending in the same town together and what that looks like.”

Actor Kevin McGarry, who plays Nathan, previously shared his thoughts on his character and Elizabeth’s relationship.

“I really feel like [Nathan] not finding a place, him not finding a partner, was deliberate. He was meant to kind of just wonder, while she was kind of moving forward with Lucas [Elizabeth’s Season 10 love interest]. I think it was always meant to be this and that they were meant to be endgame. And I really like how it’s been done,” he said.

McGarry also acknowledged that some fans will be disappointed that Elizabeth is entering into a relationship with Nathan.

“My message is that I am sorry if anybody is hurt from the way that the story is being told. That’s not anybody’s intention,” he emphasized. “The long-term [goal] is always to tell a great story. Tell a long story. And, you know, this was the decision—and I really hope that you stay with us. Every character is inherently good on the show and just because somebody is not with somebody else, it doesn’t mean that they’re not an important character on the show.”

The actor said Lucas would remain “a very big part of Hope Valley,” adding, “I don’t think we’d have to show without [him].”
