WISH Earns 13.2 Million Views Five Days After Disney+ Debut

Disney’s movie WISH is finding new success among Disney+ viewers.

WISH, an animated musical that stars Ariana DeBose and Chris Pine, gained 13.2 million views in its first five days on the streamer.

Movieguide®’s synopsis of the movie reads:

WISH is an animated musical fantasy from Disney. King Magnifico established Rosas, a peaceful kingdom on a beautiful island in the Mediterranean. People come from all over to live in Rosas, where the King promises them peace and happiness, but only if they give him their greatest wish. He promises to grant them their wish, when he decides they deserve it. Asha, a 17-year-old girl, learns that King Magnifico will never grant most wishes. So, she wishes upon a star, and the star helps her oppose the evil King Magnifico and his unjust rule.

It earned a -1 content rating from Movieguide® due to one light vulgarity, light violence and miscellaneous immorality.

Deadline reported that the movie is the “third biggest premiere on the service, behind those of ENCANTO and FROZEN 2, with a view being defined as total stream time divided by runtime.” It was also nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature.

Despite the success on Disney+, WISH underperformed when it hit theaters last November. It earned $254 million worldwide, surpassing its $200 million budget.

The movie, in part, celebrates Disney’s 100th anniversary. CBR reported, “It included a variety of Easter eggs that paid homage to animated Disney movies dating back to the 1937 release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”

The film, directed by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn, also stars Alan Tudyk, Angelique Cabral, Victor Garber, Natasha Rothwell, Jennifer Kumiyama, Harvey Guillén, Evan Peters, Ramy Youssef, and Jon Rudnitsky.

Part of Movieguide®’s review reads:

WISH is a spirited, often funny and charming, allegorical fantasy. It has lots of jeopardy, good music and a strong warning about giving too much power to leaders. However, it has a Romantic worldview saying people are basically good. WISH also promotes having personal wishes without consulting God. That said, the movie promotes family, justice, truth, liberty against tyranny, and making the world a better place. Finally, although the heroine in WISH searches for guidance among the stars, the movie shows that using magic to control people is evil.
