SCROOGE & MARLEY

What You Need To Know:

SCROOGE & MARLEY starts with Marley dying. Callous Scrooge, played by Dean Jones, sues the Chinese takeout restaurant whose indigestible food killed Marley for a lifetime supply of wonton soup. Thus it is shown that Scrooge is a ruthless ambulance chaser. When a man comes into his office with a broken leg, Scrooge breaks his neck so he can win a bigger settlement. Furthermore, Scrooge is furious about the Nativity scene outside a Presbyterian Church so he takes the church to court. Opposing him is his nephew, a committed Christian. During the proceedings, he sees Marley at the window. Suddenly, Marley and Scrooge are in an eternal court and the question is posed, What if Jesus had never been born?

There’s much to like about this recasting of the famous Charles Dickens tale, A CHRISTMAS CAROL. The questions that Scrooge asks have a real ring to them, and the evidence presented by Marley and his witnesses, including Dr. D. James Kennedy, is superb and effective. Regrettably, the humor is too broad in places. Even so, by the end of the movie, everyone in the audience was experiencing tears of joy.

There is much to like about this recasting of the famous Charles Dickens tale, A CHRISTMAS CAROL, which was inspired by WHAT IF JESUS HAD NEVER BEEN BORN? by Dr. D. James Kennedy.

. The questions that Scrooge asks have a real ring to them, and the evidence presented by Marley and his witnesses, including Dr. D. James Kennedy, is superb and effective.

Regrettably, the humor is too broad in places. This was a conscious effort to lighten the story, but it produced a reaction in the children who watched it with me that brought the entertainment value down to two stars. Even so, by the end of the movie, everyone in the audience was experiencing tears of joy.

Therefore, it is our Christmas prayer that this program does well on television and that Coral Ridge goes on from glory to glory to make many more like it. This is must viewing.
