Peacock Hikes Prices for Second Time in Two Years
By Movieguide® Contributor
Peacock will raise its prices for the second time in two years this summer.
In July, Peacock will increase to $7.99/month, $2 up from its current plan. Premium Plus will increase to $13.99/month. The annual prices will both rise by $20, with the new annual Premium price at $79.99 and the annual Premium Plus at $139.99.
Variety reported, “The new prices will be effective starting July 18 for new Peacock customers and for existing subscribers with their next billing date on or after Aug. 17.”
NBCUniversal, who owns the streamer, is using the prince increase to capitalize on the Summer Olympics, which will take place in Paris this year and air on Peacock.
Movieguide® recently reported on the new features Peacock is launching to immerse Olympic fans:
“Discovery Multiview is designed to help viewers track a handful of the up to 40 simultaneous live events in a single frame,” Deadline said. “Up to four competitions in sports such as soccer, track & field and wrestling will be available within the same screen. YouTube TV and others have gained consumer traction with the concept in recent years, but Peacock will be the first standalone streaming app to offer a multi-view experience, NBCU says.”
The streamer is hoping to make the platform more profitable.
Last summer, subscription prices jumped from $1 to $5.99 for the ad-supported tier and from $2 to $11.99 per month to go ad-free.
CNBC said, “While parent company Comcast touted Peacock as a bright spot during its recent earnings call, losses stemming from the streamer have weighed on earnings. Losses were said to have peaked in 2023, and executives expect they’ll narrow in upcoming quarters. Peacock now has 34 million subscribers.”
Peacock prides itself on providing subscribers with close to 100,000 hours of content, including Peacock originals, Universal films, NBC, Bravo and live sports.
