WHEN CALLS THE HEART’s Kavan Smith Shares Insight Into Lee’s Journey This Season

WHEN CALLS THE HEART star Kavan Smith is opening up about what the most recent episode means for his character, Lee.
Warning: spoilers for Season 11 Episode 5 “Stronger Together” ahead!
Smith touched on Lee’s new position as mayor of the town, calling it “a double-edged sword.”
“Obviously he ran for mayor before and didn’t win. So I think he feels winning this way is a little cheap,” he explained. “But then I think after reflection, he probably thinks sometimes that’s just the way the cookie crumbles and you’ve got to take it when it happens. Lee just decides to magnanimously slide into the role because it is sort of what he sees for himself. It’s kind of a calling, and I guess sometimes it doesn’t matter how it comes about, just that it comes about.”
Smith also talked about his scenes with Pascale Hutton, who plays Lee’s wife Rosemary.
“We did some scenes this season where we’re just sitting and we improv a fair bit of this, but we just talked like the characters about what we’d done and what we hadn’t done, and there was a weight to it that maybe didn’t appear in previous seasons because I think we’re doing things outside of just Lee and Rosie,” he shared.
Hutton has previously spoken about her on-screen chemistry with Smith, saying it was “there pretty much out of the gate.”
“Kavan is truly one of my best friends in the entire world,” she continued. “The fact that I get to do a job that I love with a person that is one of my best friends, that’s just such a rare anomaly in one’s career and I just enjoy every second of it.”
WHEN CALLS THE HEART star Erin Krakow has teased what upcoming episodes have in store for her character, Elizabeth, saying, “Moving into Season 11, it was important for me to explore the sides of Elizabeth that show her celebrating life a bit more and being open to those. There’s a real lightness and joy that comes with that.”

WHEN CALLS THE HEART’s Erin Krakow and Kevin McGarry are giving fans some hints about the upcoming season’s romance plot line.
“It’s always nice working with Kevin,” Krakow said during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
Krakow plays Elizabeth in the popular Hallmark series. The upcoming eleventh season is going to explore her relationship with Nathan, played by McGarry.
“It’s really lovely to get to tell this story and kind of give that back to all the Kevin fans and the Nathan fans,” Krakow continued. “They’re in for a treat in Season 11.”
McGarry added, “I have always liked Elizabeth and Nathan as a couple. I think Nathan was created for Elizabeth…he was meant to kind of just wander while she was going on a journey. I think it was always meant to be this and that they were meant to be endgame.”
