Tracy Morgan to Star in THE NEIGHBORHOOD Spinoff CRUTCH

Comedian Tracy Morgan will appear in a new THE NEIGHBORHOOD series spinoff called CRUTCH.

The show will take place in the same universe as Paramount+’s THE NEIGHBORHOOD, which stars Cedric the Entertainer.

“Morgan stars in the series as Francois ‘Frank’ Crutchfield, or Crutch to those who know him well. The character is described as ‘a Harlem widower whose empty-nest plans are put on hold after his millennial son and free-spirited daughter move back home,’” Variety reported.

A possible spinoff was teased in the past. In Season 5 of THE NEIGHBORHOOD, Morgan made an appearance as Calvin’s rich younger brother Curtis.

“He notably starred in a Season 5 episode of the original show titled ‘Welcome to Bro Money, Bro Problems,’ playing Calvin’s wealthy younger brother Curtis. While Morgan’s portrayal offered up tantalizing hints of a potential Curtis spinoff, screenwriter Owen Smith’s pilot script for Crutch ultimately envisioned Morgan as a brand new character—albeit from the same family,” Collider reported.

“I’m excited to be expanding our THE NEIGHBORHOOD universe by producing a show with the legendary comedian Tracy Morgan,” Cedric the Entertainer said.

“This new character is the close cousin to my character Calvin Butler, and you will enjoy some of their many similarities. Morgan plays Crutch, a ‘say-it-like-it-is’ widowed father who is challenged when his two adult children and a couple of grandchildren need to move back home, and let’s just say there will be several comedic complications,” he described.

Morgan also shared his excitement for the series.

“Crutch will be navigating the ups and downs of having his kids and grandkids back under one roof, and you know if I am doing this, there will be plenty of laughs along the way,” he said. “I am so happy to be able to do this with my brother Cedric the Entertainer, Owen Smith and the rest of the amazing crew we have put together. Get ready for your new favorite show!”

Morgan previously shared his faith in God following a near-fatal accident in 2014. Movieguide® previously reported:

Following a terrible car accident that left comedian and actor Tracy Morgan critically injured, Morgan’s road to recovery has included a lot of self-reflection and faith.

In a recent interview on the morning show The Breakfast Club, Morgan shared with the hosts about the importance of seeking God.

“God has a way of showing you,” Morgan said. “He’s patient; He’ll show you. . . If you want to know, God will show you. If you want to know, just pray! Get close to him, ‘God, show me. Show me.’”

Morgan continued, “Now, you better be strong if He shows you. It might not go your way. Don’t be mad. It’s all a part of the plan. The accident, it’s all a part of the plan.”
