CeCe Winans: Worship ‘Puts Your Focus on the Greatness of God’

Gospel star CeCe Winans is sharing the moment that taught her “the power of praise.”
“When my second eldest brother passed—Ronald passed—we were all around the bed in the hospital room,” she said while appearing on TBN’s PRAISE. “And when Ronald took his last breath, my father’s hands went up, and he just began to worship God.”
Winans continued, “His first words were like, ‘Lord, I thank you for the years you gave us Ronald.’ And I looked at him like, ‘That’s your first response?’ But seeing how God carried my parents through that, losing a child…he understood the power of praise.”
She explained that now, when she’s going through “a rough time, a challenging time, I know even if I’m crying, I cry with my hands lifted up. It gives me the strength because worship always puts your focus on the greatness of God.”
Winans has previously spoken about how her brother’s death impacted her faith.
At one point, Ronald suffered massive heart failure. Doctors told the family he didn’t make it, but Winans recalled her father saying, “Well, can we pray for you? And you go back in and give it another try?”
“And the doctor looked at us and said, ‘Hey, if you want to.’ And we all began to pray,” she continued.
Shortly after the family began praying, the doctors went back to the operating room and revived Ronald.
“So, we lost him. But the God that specializes in the impossible brought him back,” Winans said. “And so, if God can raise the dead, He can handle anything that you’re going through, anything that you’ve been through. He can handle what you’re facing right now, and He knows what’s happening in the future. God responds to our faith. So, don’t be nervous. Believe. And God will show up and do what only He can do.”
Winans recently celebrated her tenth No. 1 album on the Billboard Gospel charts, live album “More Than This.”
“We got the chance to create a worship service more than a record, a time of worship that would tie the old with the new,” Winans told Billboard. “I know a lot of people don’t listen to whole albums nowadays, but I like to create a piece of work that you can listen from the beginning to the end, and you connect that thread all the way through.”
Movieguide® previously reported on “More Than This”:
Winans recently released “More Than This,” a 13-track live album recorded in Nashville.
Forbes reported that Winans invited worship teams from across the country to join the live recording.
“So, we had singers in the audience,” she said, “and not just singers, but people who sing these songs weekly. And I’m just going to tell you, that was a highlight for me. When I heard those voices singing along with me, it was like being in heaven. It made it all so special.”
