Why Candace Cameron Bure Left Hallmark to ‘Grow a New Network’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Great American Family actress Candace Cameron Bure recently spoke on her Instagram Stories about her departure from Hallmark.
“It wasn’t so much about leaving as it was about an opportunity to grow a new network that puts faith and family at the forefront of its content,” she said in response to a fan’s question about why she left. “I’m very proud of the work I did at Hallmark for 15 years and love all my friends there. I’m more than an actor. Growth in my company as well as my achievements in business is extremely important to me.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Bure’s transition to GAF:
“The truth is I’ve been under contract with Hallmark for a very, very long time. And those have been absolutely wonderful. It just so happened that my contract was expiring when Great American Family started up,” she said of the transition. “So we did not start having those discussions until we were well into negotiations with Hallmark Channel for renewing. And as every business person knows, you’ve got to do what’s right for contracts. It didn’t work out with Hallmark and so we started talking to Bill.”
Bure worked with Abbott at Hallmark for years and said she was always thankful for receiving another opportunity to act after her hiatus from TV.
“I felt like Bill gave me my first shot coming back into the business and I will always be grateful to him for that. I really grew alongside of him as he built the network,” she said. “Bill has just always been a champion. He’s been a champion for others through his whole career and that’s what has made him an incredible president and CEO of a company — because he knows he’s not doing it himself.
The actress has a few new projects in the work with the network.
“I have mystery movies coming out in the fall on Great American Family channel called THE AINSLEY MCGREGOR MYSTERIES… I also have a new Christmas movie airing in November on Great American Family Channel called A CHRISTMAS LESS TRAVELED,” Bure shared.
She previously shared her excitement for AINSLEY MCGREGOR.
“There’s nothing more thrilling than getting back to the mystery genre. Mysteries are so entertaining and engaging to watch and to solve,” Bure said. “I’m excited for our devoted fans to meet the people of Sweet River, Texas and watch Ainsley McGregor in action. This series has so much to offer, including family drama and evolving relationships that will surely keep audiences hooked!”
A CHRISTMAS LESS TRAVELED will follow diner owner Desi (Bure) as she sells her 1964 Ford F-100 to pay off mounting bills.
“As Desi visits the vintage truck one last time, she discovers a recorded message from her dad on an old audio cassette. Desi’s Dad’s voice sends her and ‘Old Red’ out to retrace her family’s most memorable moments one last time. Just as the journey begins, Desi meets Greyson (Johnson) who offers her a generous payment in exchange for a ride to “close the most important deal” of his life. Little do Desi and Greyson realize the less traveled road will reveal more about each of them than they could have ever known,” a synopsis reads.
