SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE Sequel Sets 2026 Premiere Date

The SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE sequel is officially coming to theaters in 2026!

“The release date for the new Super Mario animated movie in Japan has been set for April 24, 2026,” Nintendo head Shigeru Miyamoto posted on X. “We are working with the Illumination team to make it a fun movie, so please continue to look forward to it.”

There are no details about what fans can expect from the upcoming sequel, but some viewers have theorized the next movie will see Mario, Luigi, Peach, and the rest of the gang journey to new lands beyond the Mushroom Kingdom.

“Eagle-eyed fans might have noticed that the land of Yoshi appeared in the original movie,” August Man reported. “A Yoshi is also seen entering Mario’s world at the end of it. No doubt this gives big hints at where this sequel might be going. Yoshi’s Island will probably play a big role in THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE 2.”

Chris Pratt, who voiced Mario in the first movie, is just as excited for the upcoming sequel.

“I can’t tell you much but I can say that there is another Mario movie coming,” he said. “It gets me very excited thinking about the world of Mario and Nintendo in general.”

Pratt continued, “I think over the next decade we will be seeing lots of stories coming out of that world. I was thrilled, honored, and blessed to be part of the first one and moving forward I’m open to doing as much and as little as they want from me. I can’t say much but I am just as excited as everyone else.”

It’s not surprising Nintendo and Illumination are betting on Mario once again — THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE was the highest-grossing movie of 2023, as well as the highest-grossing video game adaptation movie of all time.

The movie also received Movieguide®’s Teddy Bear® Award for Best Movie for Families. A portion of the Movieguide® review reads:
