Is Chris Pratt Leaving Marvel for James Gunn’s DCU?

After visiting his friend James Gunn — the architect of the DCU — on the set of SUPERMAN: LEGACY, Chris Pratt shared his thoughts on joining the franchise in the future.

“Yes, of course,” Pratt said when asked if he would consider joining the DCU. “If it could fit into my schedule and it made sense, I would love it…I just have to leave that to the fans and people like James [Gunn] to decide.”

Pratt previously headlined the MCU with his role as Star-Lord in the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY trilogy. Gunn served as the director of those movies, his last project before starting his role as the head of the DCU.

“Of course I love playing Star-Lord, and hopefully there’s a chance that can come back,” Pratt added. “I just feel so blessed to be able to do any of it, to be considered for any of it. If it’s right and the fans would love it, I’d be more than happy to do it.”

Gunn has shared a similar sentiment in the past, explaining that he would be thrilled to have previous MCU actors take on roles in the DCU. However, he would first want to establish his new universe before bringing in the cross-over actors.

“That’s many years away, though. I think we have to establish what we’re doing [at DC] first. I would be lying to say that we haven’t discussed it,” Gunn said. “But all the discussions have been very, very light and fun.”

“We have hundreds of roles to cast,” he added in a tweet. “As I’ve always done, some will be brand new faces, some will be actors I’ve worked with before, and some will be actors you know who I’ve never worked with. What matters most is the actor fits the role and they’re easy to work with.”

As Gunn builds out the new DC Universe, he plans to set his project apart from the MCU by having a concrete vision planned from the start, rather than cobbling different franchises together to create crossover events. Through this extensive planning, he hopes to revive the superhero genre, which has tanked in popularity since the MCU’s climactic end to the Thanos saga in 2019 with AVENGERS: ENDGAME.

The Gunn-led DCU will kick off in July 2025 with the release of SUPERMAN: LEGACY.

If you’re a superhero fan, there is much to look forward to in the DC Universe.

DC Studios’ James Gunn and Peter Safran recently shared their plans for the DCU’s future with Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav.

“I’ve had a glimpse into what James and Peter are doing, and it really does serve as an exciting indicator of where the new DC is headed under their leadership,” Zaslav shared. “There’ll be more you’ll hear from them in the months ahead…We’ll have James and Peter take you through in the next few months a full spectrum of what they see over the next 10 years.”

In a press event in January, Gunn explained how the vision for DC is not like Marvel, as some might expect.
