Zac Efron Updates Fans After Swimming Incident Left Him Hospitalized

Zac Efron has recovered from a “minor swimming incident” that left him hospitalized in Spain last week.

“Efron was staying at a villa in Ibiza when he had a ‘minor swimming incident’ while using the pool on Friday, Aug. 2, a representative for the star previously confirmed to PEOPLE,” PEOPLE reported.

TMZ reported, “Sources with direct knowledge tell TMZ…Zac was found inside the swimming pool by two people working at the villa who pulled him out of the water.”

He went to the hospital for “precautionary measures,” stayed overnight and was released the next day.

On Saturday, Efron’s rep said, “He is fine.”

“Happy and healthy,” Efron wrote alongside a photograph of himself lifting weights on a Sunday Instagram Story. “Thanks for the well wishes.”

“The night before the incident, Efron appeared to be in good spirits,” Fox News reported. “In video posted to TikTok, the A FAMILY AFFAIR actor can be seen partying at the Ushuaïa Ibiza Hotel and Beach Club, dancing on stage with DJ Martin Garrix, who performs on Thursdays.”

He probably wasn’t “partying” too hard, though. He became sober over 10 years ago.

He told Elle magazine in 2016, “What I found is structure. That led me to a balance of opposites: You get out of life what you put in. There was a moment when my morning routine was, like, Get up and Google yourself. But that stopped, dramatically and instantly, probably three years ago.”

“I realized that viewing yourself through other people’s pictures is not living your own life. I wasn’t really being myself. A lot of my hobbies had gone out the window. I couldn’t skateboard or surf for fear of being followed. Crossing the line of fear is what leads to greatness,” he said.

Movieguide® previously reported on one of Efron’s upcoming movies:

Zac Efron is heading back to his Disney roots to star in the remake of THREE MEN AND A BABY…

The remake of the 80’s movie is intended to be released on Disney’s streaming service, Disney+.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gordan Gray will produce the movie.
