FULL HOUSE Actress Says Co-Stars Encouraged Her to Pursue Comedy
By Movieguide® Contributor
Jodie Sweetin says her FULL HOUSE co-stars Bob Saget and Dave Coulier helped get her into stand-up comedy.
“It weirdly happened around the time that Bob passed,” she said of her beginnings in stand-up during an episode of the “FULL HOUSE Rewind” podcast.
Saget passed away in 2022 after falling and hitting his head. He was 65 years old.
Sweetin continued, “I can’t tell you how many times you and Bob gave me compliments about how funny I was…you guys always encouraged that in me.”
The actress has previously spoken about the impact Saget and Coulier had on her comedy style.
“It has made me able to walk through anything with fun and silliness,” Sweetin explained. “And so now I get to do it with other comedians, like, other standups, and it’s such an honor, to even be taken seriously and get to do that.”
Sweetin has also talked about how Saget’s own dark, edgy jokes influenced her sense of humor.
“As an adult, Bob and I were always going back and forth joking,” she shared. “I just absorbed so much. When we lost him, I realized how deeply comedy and stand-up comedians impacted my life. I learned no matter what the horrific situation, you can always make it funny.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Saget and Sweetin’s relationship:
FULL HOUSE star Jodie Sweetin opened up about the parenting lessons she learned from her TV dad, the late Bob Saget.
“I understood that, when I had kids, you can joke with them, you can have real conversations,” the actress said while appearing on the Conversations With Olivia Jade podcast.
Sweetin said Saget carried this idea over into his interactions with his real-life kids.
“He didn’t talk to them like they were idiots — and he did the same with me,” Sweetin shared. “He treated me with respect as a young person, and so did John [Stamos] and Dave [Coulier].”
The actress also shared how her FULL HOUSE co-stars helped her learn how to use humor as a parent.
“[Saget, Stamos, and Coulier] brought a level of humor to my parenting that my kids are also inheriting [which] is both good and bad,” Sweetin joked. “I learned a lot from them, and I continue to.”
