WHEEL OF FORTUNE’s Latest Clue Teases ‘New Era’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Ryan Seacrest and Vanna White are announcing a “New Era of WHEEL” after he took on the role of WHEEL OF FORTUNE host following Pat Sajak’s retirement.
In a post to Instagram, Seacrest shared a photo of himself and White holding a board game with the famous RSTLNE letters which are typically given to Bonus Round contestants. This time, though, the next photo reveals they stand for “Ryan Seacrest to Launch New Era.”
“We’re so excited for this New Era of Wheel! #RSTLNE” Seacrest said.
Fans commented with excitement about the new host. “Ryan is tailor-made for The Wheel. When does the new season start?” one user commented. “Everything you do Ryan is great. Can’t wait to see the new season,” another person said.
Seacrest fills the role of legendary host Pat Sajak, who retired last season.
“I’m truly humbled to be stepping into the footsteps of the legendary Pat Sajak,” Seacrest told Fox News. “I can say, along with the rest of America, that it’s been a privilege and pure joy to watch Pat and Vanna [White] on our television screens for an unprecedented 40 years, making us smile every night and feel right at home with them. Pat, I love the way you’ve always celebrated the contestants and made viewers at home feel at ease. I look forward to learning everything I can from you during this transition.”
Sajak announced his departure from the show last year. Movieguide® previously reported:
Longtime WHEEL OF FORTUNE host Pat Sajak announced that he is retiring from the show at the end of the next season.
“Well, the time has come. I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last. It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all,” Sajak said via Twitter.
Sajak took over the show in 1981 from Chuck Woolery who had hosted for the show’s first 6 years. In the 40 years since he took over, WHEEL OF FORTUNE has become a television mainstay and one of the longest continually running televised gameshows.
Season 42 is expected to premiere this fall.
Sajak isn’t done entertaining, though. He’ll return to host CELEBRITY WHEEL OF FORTUNE for one season, premiering on Oct. 8. He is also taking on the lead role in the stage play “Prescription: Murder,” playing at the Hawaii Theatre Center.
“Sajak will appear in the ‘COLUMBO mystery thriller’ alongside ‘long-time buddy’ Moore on the mainstage from July 31 to August 10 of 2025. According to the theatre, Sajak plays a ‘brilliant psychiatrist’ who plots along with his mistress to murder his wife and establish a bizarre alibi in this ‘theatrical predecessor’ to the TV series COLUMBO,” USA Today reported.
