Former Miss Universe’s Identity Crisis Inspired Book to Help Others

Demi-Leigh Tebow is sharing what inspired her book, “A Crown That Lasts: You Are Not Your Label.”
“I know not everybody has worn a physical crown like I have,” she said during an appearance on FOX & FRIENDS. “But I think one thing a lot of us can relate to is having rooted our value and our worth in something that was temporary.”
Tebow was crowned Miss Universe in 2017 but found herself struggling when it came time to pass the title on to the next person.
“When the moment came when I had to give that crown back, that thing I worked so hard for so long, it left me in pretty much an identity crisis because I wasn’t sure who I was without that thing that I showed up for every single day,” she explained.
Tebow shared that her faith is “so important” and “really saved” her during that time.
“I just felt dark and lonely, but I realized that I had a choice to decide: am I being buried? Or was I being planted?,” she recalled. “I had to realize and learn in that season [that] I can continue to grow.”
In another interview with Fox News, Tebow remembered feeling like she “forgot something” after she handed over the crown and title and walked off the stage.
“Eventually I realized that I had left my identity on that stage alongside my Miss Universe crown because I had attached my worth, my value to the thing that I thought made me important, worthy,” she said.
This realization is what encouraged her to write “A Crown That Lasts.”
“When I sat down to begin writing it a few years ago, I realized I had so much internal work I still needed to do in order to write the message I felt God was calling me to write,” Tebow wrote in an Instagram post announcing the book. “I realized that writing this book was just as much for myself as it was for you all, and it’s something I’m still learning too! The message in A Crown That Lasts isn’t one I feel worthy of sharing, but it is one I feel very called to share.”
She continued, “My prayer is that God uses my experiences, stories and lessons – including the ones I’ve learned the hard way – to help you claim your true identity, become more confident in God and live out your unique purpose too!”
Movieguide® previously reported on Tebow’s search to rediscover her identity:
Demi Tebow recently sat down with Sadie Robertson Huff on the “Whoa That’s Good Podcast” to discuss the importance of finding your identity in Christ.
Tebow, former Miss Universe winner and wife of NFL star Tim Tebow, has firsthand experience with what it’s like to put your identity in temporary things…
Tebow explained how the value that the crown gave her was only temporary, and once it was gone, she struggled with its absence.
“The value that I attached to that thing that I got to wear for a short period of time. You know, I think of like COVID, right? Like when all the planes were stranded and nobody got to fly anywhere, those big Boeings were pretty much worthless because…they weren’t being used. And the thing that gave me my value, the thing that people booked me for, the thing that people wanted to talk to me about, the thing that people wanted to invite me to be in the room for was now gone,” she explained.
“That stripped me of so much of what I thought my value was, and it left me in a season that really felt like a wasted season, but I later realized like it wasn’t a wasted season, it was a waiting season,” she said.
“I think it’s so good for you to, if you’re able to, strip those things away in some sense just to really find yourself in Christ,” Huff added.
