Candace Cameron Bure Can’t Wait to Make More Mystery Movies
By Movieguide® Contributor
Candace Cameron Bure is returning to a familiar stomping ground with her new mystery series AINSLEY MCGREGOR MYSTERIES, a franchise she is extremely excited to kick off.
“I love the mystery genre and played a character for many, many movies over 10 years. So going back into the mystery genre, I really wanted to find a character that felt different, one that I could resonate with, and also that the dynamics of the other relationships were really interesting to me,” Bure told TV Line.
“I love that Ainsley McGregor is a criminologist, so she, by trade, is trying to solve mysteries. She teaches classes at a college, and then she’s also this woman who is an entrepreneur. She opened her own business called Bless Your Arts, which I just loved. It’s an artisan store. It’s kind of like Etsy in real life, so all people from the community sell their homemade crafts and all different kinds of things,” Bure continued. “I love that about her and felt that was really different.”
The AINSLEY MCGREGOR MYSTERIES franchise kicked off earlier this week with A CASE FOR THE WINEMAKER. This movie introduced the main character of the franchise, Ainsely, who returns to her small hometown in Texas after spending years in Chicago as a successful criminologist. A portion of Movieguide®’s review reads:
AINSLEY MCGREGOR MYSTERIES: A CASE FOR THE WINEMAKER is a well-produced, enjoyable movie with high-quality performances. The movie has a strong moral worldview with Christian values. For example, it promotes healthy relationships, truth and justice. A CASE FOR THE WINEMAKER doesn’t have any crude or obscene content. However, it does feature a murder mystery, although there’s minimal blood and violence. MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children.
Great American Family has big plans for the characters as they have already shot the second movie, and Bure is working on the third and fourth stories for the franchise.
“Our cozy mysteries are crafted in the heritage of the classic storytelling that has evolved since Agatha Christie coined the term in the 1930s and set the stage for one of the most popular genres of entertainment,” GAF CEO Bill Abbott said of the series.
“It’s kind of an actor’s dream because you get to really find that person and develop them and create who you want them to be,” Bure said. “I love doing franchise work like this a lot, and I know that the fans absolutely love it. You fall in love with the characters. You want to know what’s going to happen next, and that’s the beauty and the benefit of doing it like this.”
A CASE FOR THE WINEMAKER made its linear premiere on Saturday, Oct. 5. It’s available to stream on Great American Pure Flix.

Movieguide® presenter and Teddy Bear Award® winner Candace Cameron Bure is dishing on her latest role in Great American Family’s AINSLEY MCGREGOR MYSTERIES: A CASE FOR THE WINEMAKER.
“In A CASE FOR THE WINEMAKER, Ainsley’s best friends, Shannon and Michael, own a winery and someone’s murdered,” Bure explained in a video filmed on the movie’s set. “There are a lot of suspects within the community and some really strange people that have appeared in town recently. So we’re trying to figure out who’s done it…”
The mystery is based on a book by Candace Havens.
“I really liked who Ainsley is,” Bure shared. “Different from any other characters that I’ve played in that she’s more analytical and she’s a creative person, but there’s so much thought and intention behind everything every step that she makes and everything that she does.”
