Chris Pratt Urges Support for Hurricane Victims: ‘It’s Up to Us’

Chris Pratt is urging support for victims of Hurricane Helene, noting that a helping hand ultimately comes from communities, not governments.

“I think what makes this country great has always been the people in the community,” the GARFIELD star said Thursday. “And the people who are willing to step up. It’s not up to other people, it’s up to us.”

“I’ll be making a donation on the side,” Pratt said. “But to anybody out there watching this, $5 bucks, $10 bucks, anything you can do. And if you can’t that’s okay…just let this be an inspiration to you that you can go out there.”

No gift is too small.

“You can do something. There’s someone out there who needs help,” the actor said.

“We are the fabric of this society. It’s not government. It’s us,” Pratt continued. “We make this country great. Today, November 5th. and Nov. 6th, no matter what happens, it’s on us to be strong in our country. People showing up and putting boots on the ground.”

Pratt shared a video of former SEAL team member John Gretton Willing Jr. speaking to Pratt and Green Beret Tim Kennedy about teams and helicopters “working around the clock” to help victims.

“This storm has wreaked havoc on so many people’s lives and it’s important we are informed,” Pratt added. “Please watch the video and head to @saveourallies to help. Anything helps. God bless.”

Pratt was also vocal about disaster support relief when the Hawaii fires happened last year. He partnered with brand TravisMathew, which donated 100% of its profits to the fire victims on Sep. 1, 2023.

Pratt said at the time, “The strength and resilience of Maui’s communities have never been clearer than during these trying times. The island of Maui is not just some place where I was discovered, where I used to live in a van, but a paradise where I first gave my heart to God. The island has given me so much, and I’m grateful to have a brand partner in TravisMathew, who is willing to join me in this mission of helping supply the resources necessary to restrengthen the community in this trying time.”

Movieguide® recently reported on one celebrity who got caught up in Hurricane Helene:

[DUCK DYNASTY’S Al Robertson] described hearing the storm rage around [his family], saying, “You’re just praying, you know, ‘Spare us.’ And then you start praying about the people down lower [on the mountain]…Areas like this, whenever the ground gives way, everything goes to the bottom.”

“We got out the next morning to try and check on the cousins, and it was a war zone,” he continued.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, thousands were left without power or running water. Entire towns were washed away in the floods, and many were stranded, as floodwaters had destroyed roads leading in and out of towns.

Hurricane Helene directly affected six states, and now, it seems like Florida can’t catch a break because a category 4 hurricane, Hurricane Milton, looms ahead this week. Its maximum wind speed has been recorded at 150 mph.

“Forecasters predict Milton will make landfall around the Tampa Bay area by Wednesday or early Thursday, drenching a large part of a state still reeling from Hurricane Helene,” CBS News reported yesterday.
