What You Need To Know:
BARNEY’S WORLD is a simple but engaging children’s show. It teaches children valuable lessons, such as the joy that comes from helping others, cleaning up after yourself, sharing, and having the courage to tell the truth, even when you do wrong. The program has some politically correct elements. For example, Barney instructs the children in the intro song to love themselves. This becomes a central theme. There’s no other objectionable content in the first six episodes. MOVIEGUIDE® recommends that children age two and under have no screen time. Preschoolers age three to five should have extremely limited, monitored screen time. Parental discretion is advised.

More Detail:
BARNEY’S WORLD is an animated series streaming on HBO Max. The show is based on the previous series, BARNEY & THE BACKYARD GANG and follows Barney, the famous purple dinosaur, and his adventures with three friends, David, Mel and Vivie, who play at the park together. Each episode has an 11-minute runtime.
The first six episodes follow a similar pattern. David, Mel, and Vivie play in the park and invite Barney to join them on their adventures. The episodes include a singalong and a moral lesson that one of the three friends learns.
BARNEY’S WORLD has two central themes throughout the first two episodes. The first lies in the intro theme song, which states children should love themselves and others. The second central theme is teaching children to be open about their feelings and the importance of making space to listen.
In Episode Six, the strongest of the show’s early episodes, Vivie accidentally breaks her friend’s remote-controlled airplane. At first, she’s ashamed and too scared to tell the truth. Barney encourages her to be brave and own up to the accident. This is one of the better episodes, but the other episodes also teach children moral lessons about obeying your parents, the joy of sharing with and helping others, and the importance of cleaning up after oneself.
Ultimately, there’s no objectionable content in the first six episodes of BARNEY’S WORLD. MOVIEGUIDE® recommends that children aged two and under have no screen time, while preschoolers aged three to five should have extremely limited and monitored screen time. Parental discretion is advised.
