Lions LB Leans on Faith After Injury Takes Him Off the Field

Detroit Lions linebacker Derrick Barnes has been on the injured reserve since Week 3 when he suffered a torn MCL and PCL in his right knee.
But he trusts God has a plan.
“I knew at some point in my life that my faith would be tested, but I was prepared for it,” Barnes said in an Instagram post reflecting on the injury. “I told the Lord, when that day comes I would lean on him and not question him. I asked myself why me? But the Lord said Jeremiah 29:11-12 ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come pray to me, and I will listen to you.'”

The athlete often uses his platform to talk about his faith in Christ.
“God: You thought I was going to break you. But I sent it to make you. You thought it was time then. But I needed to process you. It’s time now,” Barnes wrote in one past.
In another, he said, “Commit your work to the lord, and your plans will be established.”
“When I ask the Lord how things will turn out..The Lord: ‘I don’t want to spoil it for you,'” Barnes wrote in a third post.
While no timeline for Barnes’ return to the Lions’ starting lineup has been announced, there are rumors that he could potentially return amid playoff contentions.
